What if you held the pistol upside down? Then your index finger would be on the trigger spur

This' my first time seeing Jonathan. It's great seeing someone who takes their work very seriously, with a generous amount of cheek.

With how robust that foregrip design is, I wonder if it was related to them thinking of having a bayonet on it/it being used in melee. Or if it was just a case of it being one of the first, building it so it's guaranteed to work before figuring out where you can really start to save weight and material. I imagine they took a lot of pride and wanted to impress people with it, I know I would if I was crafting guns, especially ones as unique and interesting (for the time) as this. I mean even now it's still very unique.

I'm suprised they dont have a little flap of sheet metal with a U notch cut into it as a dust cover for that open slot. Just needs to slide back and forth with the bolt.

In general, why do the British make such crappy guns that are beyond worthless?? The French aren't much better either. Still.....with only a TINY amount of rare exceptions, why do you Brits so downright BAD at making firearms???

I thought that too, shooting out the canon hatch (holding the ball end to get more reach over the cannon), or an executioner's gun, it looks different as it more symbolic , short barrel as it wiuld be placed on top of the head (person on their knees). Bullet would shoot straight down

Well presented. Gosh the desperation and pandemonium aspect...Never thought of that before. I learned something.

I'd go with the Webley, personally. Webley gives you 6 shots, is lighter, shorter, faster to load and reload.

Lightoller interpreted the order as woman and children only, while the other officer (can’t remember his name) went by women and children first. The capacity of the boats wasn’t known for sure, so many were lowered half full.

I always love these what is this weapon videos. It is either an oddball I will learn about or the ones I find more fascinating are cases like this. It is obviously a webley revolver, so it is a question of what this particular one has on it to bring it here. Also always love to see a shout out to c&rsenal's work on the history of firearms.

Your discussion on the purpose of a shipboard firearm was an essential part of this presentation and you pulled it off with taste and no unnecessary drama--despite the grim reality of it all. Well done as usual, Jonathan!

Jonathan, I don't know if you ever view comments on older videos? But I wish you'd covered how this was loaded/reloaded. Is it loaded through the butt, singly, stripper-clip, what? I can see how it operates, but not how it is reloaded.

Yes, bullpup rifles suck

Very interesting, having never fired the SA80 As s left handed shooter, I was led to believe the whole idea of the bullpup configuration was designed for ease firing from either shoulder ? Also during my many years as an instructor in the ACF I did shoot the Lee Enfield bolt action left handed with ease, and the SLR. Also in later Yeats I took up black powder shooting, and with great care fired my Baker ànd various percussion cap weapons as a left hander in left handed mode.

I’m not even remotely kidding when I say I could live in a place like this. I like the idea of finding the weirdest firearms as a side series, I would suggest one thing to add to it. Video footage of the firearm chosen being fired and how it cycles in high speed filming. Even the ones that require rare ammunition. You can always find/or make the rounds. And having it on film working could really help for those later down the road from needing to procure an even harder to find cartridge..

The Browning/FN Hi power was readily available around the lead up to and outbreak of WW2. It would surely have been an option for a suppressed covert ops weapon.

I know Lightoller dropped his Webley when he wound up in the water, but I wonder if the other surviving officers like Lowe or Boxhall, whose boats weren’t capsized, might have kept theirs. That would be pretty damn cool for one of them to turn up.

I wonder why the people in charge of finding a new sniper rifle didn't go to H&H and say I want you to make us a sniper rifle that's good for x number of yards and see what they could come up with. I think they would have came up with a great rifle! Probably would have set a new standard? maybe they charged too much?

I have an Enfield No. 4T model, which my Grandpa brought back from Korea. Supposedly he traded his Garand for it while waiting to board the troopship to go home in ‘53. As interesting as the SREM is, I’d much rather take the Enfield to war.

Since White Star Line had a bunch of ships around 1912, it's likely this could've also came from Olympic, Oceanic II, or other WSL ships at the time.
