I saw Bernstein conduct the Vienna Phil in this symphony in October 1974, and I wonder if this is the same performance or at least one of the same performances that week that he was in Vienna at that time. It was a stunning concert. The Viennese loved him so very much. I remember he and the orchestra gave us an encore -- the entire last movement played again! I'll never forget that concert.

The all time most irritating asinine vacuous product irrelevant ads ever inflicted on the viewer are by Liberty Mutual. The company should be ashamed of the junk they pay millions for to punish their prospective customers- which I will NEVER be.
There's no one like Petrov singing in this version of the oratorio. I have the Vanguard vinyl pressed in the 1950s. This is the same recording. Quite wonderful.

This version has superior fury to the Barenboim recording, but the pianos are too forte, especially the beginning of the coda.

I cannot say whether, among the versions I know, this, Klemperer or Herbert Blomstedt with the Staatskapelle Dresden _(there is an audio and sheet version of this on here)_ is the greatest. But I would say that this here, with its high tempo, creates the greatest density, intensity and sense of despair, while Blomstedt is my personal favorite to listen to. Klemperer, of course, is almost always among the top versions for anything he does, but his "Metamorphosen" is no. 3 for me here.

His high notes are so pure and clear that they fit the text perfectly. Mozart would be proud of his beautiful aria so touchingly performed.

Lovely! I have a great-great-great grandmother (American) who lwas named "Arethusa" -- yeow -- such a strange name, esp for a woman living in rural Kentucky in the 1830s... Now I have looked up the myth and found the poem, composition and this lovely recording...

This symphony seems to embrace every imaginable human emotion. It's just an amazing piece of music. Ludwig was at her best in this concert. Gorgeous voice. And, as usual, Lenny was just Lenny. Watching him conduct is an experience in itself. He (Mahler) originally thought to give this symphony a two day presentation, thinking that the public couldn't sit still for such a long work.

What a grossly neglected genius is Bax! As a naturalist and lover of landscapes, his music is definitely on my wavelength! November Woods is so typical of his wonderful style.

Es la música mas sublime que se haya compuesto en la historia del mundo; y la interpretación del violín es de un arcángel. No creo que algo así se pueda igualar.
