Utmost respect for Jim opening up about his insecurities when coming up with new ideas and adventures in his vocabulary. I thank him for a revealing interview, and you as well John for your reassuring words of support in what I felt he needed to hear at that time.

Excellent interview. Tim seems like a normal guy who became a rock star but retained a humble character. Normal except for his incredible drumming!

Thanks John and Tim for a fascinating yet melancholy conversation. Tim Alexander is an innovatively creative musician. It was surprising to hear about his humble beginnings and percussive psychology. I have appreciated his ideas for many years and have opened my mental approach to performance .❤

Tim is so freaking awesome. So creative his parts, Much like Neil Peart. His parts are integral to the structure of the song. I could play his Primus songs, but I could never come up with his inventiveness. That’s why I’m not auditioning lol.

Great episode John! Maybe the most underrated Stones album. So many times I have heard people reference the run of albums that represented the Stones greatest era of music and it usually ends at Goats Head Soup. I always disagree. This album is one of my favorites. And the message from Charlie was gold.

Another home run interview. Did not know this amazing musician. Probably one of the most interesting solos on KZbin. Tons of space, chops and and it avoids sounding repetitive but uses repetition! Will definitely check out work and his new book. Only two drummers can riff for days on “Where’s the One?” 😎

Connecticut resident here. That show you mentioned was on June 28,2002 at the meadows in Hartford. Opening night of the vapor trails tour. I was there with my 11 year old son. What a night and what a memory. I remember Geddy mentioning the passing of Joh Entwistle which had just happened. Long live RUSH!

Been plying for 35years been playing this song for a couple of hours today, Jim was a master of groove, & dynamics, & playing fills that will enhance the song. Andy, is a technical mater , so nice to hear him heaping praise on Jim. It's real easy to think , well that's easy I could do that , but if you really listen to the feel, to the dynamic control, the push and pull of the back beat & fills, he's syncopating it in such an emotional way. He's making it a hit.

Okay, well it took a few years, but I finally got to this one, right John? Hope your Thanksgiving went well, as this is what I am thankful for! I always enjoyed his playing with the Faces, filling in with the Stones and his playing with the Who; You Better You Bet, Another Tricky Day and of course, Eminence Front. Thanks for having it around for me to have a listen to!

"It's Only Rock 'n Roll"! there's demo version with David Bowie & Elton John on backing vocal's , before Jagger nicked it , the only one of Woody's guitar;s that Kieth left on it was the 12 string accoustic at he start of the song ,,

Your Track Talk series is wonderful! I love hearing these stories behind the recording sessions. I'm a fan of Rick Marotta's work, and it's great to see him live in your drum room! I appreciate his Yamaha Drums endorsement story. I fell in love with Yamaha drums as a college student in the late '80s and went on to buy three Yamaha sets.

First track does remind me of drumming on Get Off My Cloud, distant cousin perhaps. The snare action, that is. Love in the breakdown where the bass (?) sounds distorted, loose strings or something. My problem with the Stones starts around this record with Jagger sort of over doing it, in my opinion. Love Time Waits for No One and Fingerprint File. Too bad M.Taylor left at this time. That is a beautiful ballad, Till The Next Time We Say Goodbye. Always a fan of Stones' ballads.

@@livefrommydrumroom How about that! Guess I was on the right track. First saw the Stones in November 1965 at age 7 and having already played the first few albums many times. Not sure why but I think there were loads of us young kids into this new music and it meant a lot.
