Watch the movie Purple Rain to get context on the music....

Did you delete my comment, or did KZbin do it? Nothing I said was bad or weird or anything. Was it because I defended "Baby Be Mine" as a track? Who knows...

"I Just Can't Stop Loving You" - not the best thing in the world, probably the weakest thing on the album. Well known for Siedah Garrett's vocals, but don't underestimate her - she wrote the lyrics for "Man In The Mirror", Michael loved her lyrics so much, and well the rest is history. Also "Leave Me Alone" was only on the CD release at the time, so most of us didn't even know about it's existence. Thankfully, they released it as a single the following year. A banger that a lot us almost missed out on! You MUST watch the video for this - the context is completely necessary to understand the song. Do it. Do it now.

Ok so Into Your Garden is my favorite and I am getting a little more used to her voice but still not loving it. Elephant is definitely deep and seems to resonate.

One of Kendrick's strengths is that he is versatile. I don't think that an album having one sound is a good idea, and I don't think recreating Not Like Us over again is needed. That Kendrick achieves different sounds, styles and flows here is a mark of versatility and artistry, and shows an artist that is always growing and experimenting.

One thing you have to realize is that this was in the era of vinyl lps. There were no CDs and definitely no streaming. Darling Nikki is the end of side one then you had to flip the album over to play When Doves Cry. In other words there was no way to transition from one to the other.

That audio in Smooth Criminal is from his movie Moon Walker which goes into the music video. Same with Speed Demon, Leave me Alone and DD, are apart of Moonwalker

My favorites are Blinding Lights and In Your Eyes. The rest is pretty forgettable in my opinion. Save Your Tears is good too tho.

When dove’s cry is the first track of the second side so no need to have seamless transition. Side two = Act 2

Lets Go Crazy is a live recording, thus not as "polished" as Take me with u. Appolonia (female movie lead) is singing on Take me with u. Beautiful ones, Baby I'm a Star are live recordings, also

The original version of Computer Blue was released on the box set. It is ten minutes long. Sick guitar solo.

The De-elevator is slang for the Devil. The title is slang for God. He said in an interview that record companies don't let you talk about God. The Beautiful Ones is my favorite song of his. His b-sides tend to kill his album tracks.

27:50 They could not have kept the rain going for a transition, because that was the end of side one of the album. You had to turn the record over.

I am certain you would like either 1999 or Sign O the Times albums more. They are both fantastic and have more instrumentals you will love.

27:50 lol, yeah, it would be kinda hard for Darling Nikki to seamlessly transition to When Doves Cry, because on the original vinyl LP (and the cassette too, I believe), Darling Nikki is the last song of side 1, while When Doves Cry is the first song of side 2. 😃

You have to remember back in 84, all albums were on vinyl, which means Darling Nikki was the last track on side one. Back then, only a handful of bands like Pink Floyd would make overlapping tracks from side 1 to side 2

On When Doves Cry, people (musicians) kinda dogged the song bc there is no bass. I am 61 and I have the big poster of the album cover on my wall

Sitting there staring at lyrics is not the best way to experience a song for the first time. Especially the #1 album of 1984.

You need to react to the weeknds music from the show ‘the idol’ it’s so good! Also his song lost in the fire is really good!

This album got so much hate when it first came out, probably because this was more mainstream compared to his previous work. Reminder, Six Feet under and Starboy gotta be my favorite songs.

Great reaction, definitely more unique compared to her previous work. I believe she only has one last album you haven’t reacted to, came out in 2020. Vagabond was supposed to be on Kanye’s Vultures 2 but I think it was taken off since she wanted the song.
