Corelli voice was a lot bigger than Pavarotti's lyric voice the last of the special big voiced singers. No mic needed here

No, that was in 1970 at the Met. This is with Gavazzeni at La Scala (1963).

Tenors like Pavarotti and Wunderlich and Gigli had the nicest, light voices. Tenors like Corelli and Del Monaco sounded like they could kick your ass.

Ich habe diese Aufführung heute zum ersten Mal gehört. Mein Kompliment, ein ganz außergewöhnlicher Trovatore. Phantastische Stimmen, Stella wirklich gut, Cossotto in einer ihrer Paraderollen, einzigartig, Bastianini war wirklich die Nummer eins als Bariton und ist leider viel zu früh von uns gegangen. Franco als Manrico einfach genial. Ich dachte immer, Bergonzi sei der beste Manrico - ich sah ihn in der Arena mit Cappuccilli und Lazarini - , eine absolute Weltklasse-Aufführung, aber Franco lebte den Manrico stimmlich noch viel besser. Leider gibt es keinen Tenor mehr, wie Corelli war. Die Oper ist viel ärmer geworden.

Potrei ascoltarlo mille e mille volte e ogni volta mi commuoverei come la prima in cui ho ascoltato questo splendido brano interpretato in modo sublime. Grazie!
