Why do u folks being so obsessive about Latte "Art"? I give shit about that. It´s all about the taste. Coffe is not French Cuisine. Take a look at "Svensk husmanskost". Looks like shit, but tastes great if in hands of a great cook/chef or whatever we like to call it.
@clivecoffee3 күн бұрын
Being able to craft latte art is a skill that every specialty café barista learns and strives for. It's about presentation for the customer and knowing that you're putting out a tight and high-quality product. It also shows that the person making your drink is making it with intention just for you. Taste is a given. If a barista can pour latte art, they most likely can dial in, steam milk, and do everything required to make every drink on the menu. In the home setting, pouring latte art is just...well...fun! I hope this helps!

JUNE 2024 - EUREKA SD STILL WAY TOO MUCH VIBRATION. I purchased this grinder new in Australia. I had read all about the first batch's vibration issues, and that they'd been resolved. Sadly, these ORO Single Dose units still have 3-4 times the vibration of Eureka's upright grinders, even vs the XL with same 65mm burr set. I was shocked and disappointed, so I drove to the distributor to compare the Eureka range. The vibrations on their display Single Dose were almost as bad as the one shipped to me. I believe it is a fundamental flaw with the 15 degree tilt of the motor.

My home coffee journey... Used French press with freshly roasted beans for 6 years, Then to Aeropress/V60/Clever Dripper for the past 3 years, Now I am thinking about an espresso machine (like the beautiful ECM) but scared to take the jump because I am worried about the... 1. Learning curve 2. Will I notice the improved quality for the big price? 3. Maintenance if I accidentally break it What is driving me forward is the 5 or so times out of 100+ visits to coffee shops when the espresso tasted out of this world (like an amazing food). And if the learning curve is just too tough I am thinking to forget the manual journey and get a Jura automatic. Please advise.

I tend to not follow you here. Microscopic analysis from other sides do NOT second your (somewhat common) allegation about the holes of VST baskets being more precisely then today's typical OEM or noname basket. The reason might be simple: Most (if not all) of today's OEM or noname baskets are coming from the same 2 factories (IMS in Italy and a Chinese factory which is also producing the VST and La Marzocco labeled ones). Baskets produced by IMS can be easily recognized by their characteristic hole shape and tooling marks. Hint: A lot (but not all!) of their unbranded baskets can be found in their standard catalogue (not E&B or Competition). From what I have seen in my life so far, the Chinese ones also have a characteristic inside grating/polishing which indicate their origin. I see the differences between OEM/noname and labeled baskets about extra polishing and in some cases a specific shape. There is absolutely no evidence or industrial plausibility for the assumption that the holes are punched differently - again: Microscopic analyses show the opposite

Great video. I can second almost everthing but the use of distribution tools. Doesn't matter how they are constructed, all of them either pre-compress when they are put upon the coffee bed or cause uneveness when they are turned. Source: My own experience with all different types of them (including the self-lowering ones like Bravo or Pessado). That being said: If you can't resist your strong desire to turn something on your coffee before tamping, to my experience the chisel-types like St. Anthony's shown here, Pullman Chisel or 20 bucks Scarlet Espresso (Amazon) do the least harm.

The way you do it you should in my experience have three shots at three different temperatures. The machine heats up until the light goes off but doesn’t stop there and notoriously runs too hot. So I always pull the shot right after the light goes off. Means purging a whole lot and wasting a lot of water but it’s the most consistent I found.

Also not purging water from the steam wand before steaming gives you a lot of water in your milk. At least with my machine (V6).

Why do you say it's especially important to use fresh coffee etc for a single boiler machine? That doesn't seem related to the number of boilers in the machine.
@clivecoffee21 күн бұрын
yes, you’re correct that it’s not related to the number of boilers a machine has; that’s not the point being made, especially with the information that follows that comment. Since this video is meant to show you what it’s like using, dialing in a setup, and living with this, it’s an always an important point to make right away. you’d be surprised by the amount of people who do not know this fact and actively do not use fresh coffee. and since single boiler machines are typically at a more accessible price point for most folks looking to get into home espresso, it’s a great tip for beginners!

Great video! I own the Rancilio v6 and like it. I am curious about the basket and espresso ratio. You say 15 gram coffee but the shot is 40gram in 28… so more of a 1:2 ratio? Shouldn’t it have been 30 gram espresso shot?

Better to be more fluid when dialing in rather than sticking to numbers to the exact digit. Really depends a lot on how the coffee tastes as well.
