I started this ear fullness and high pitched hissing in the left and intensifies when clenching. Orthodontist told me its from stress clenching, as I went through a very stressful health scare a few months back. He did not take an x ray , but said since my jaw doesn't stick it's probably just inflammation, and he recommended I massage it myself and use hot towels on my face. I hope this works, it seems too simple of a solution though !

Hey Dr, is a facebow from the pt's mouth more accurate compared to the mounting plate when mounting these cases? I've never used the plate before. Only facebows. I mainly design digitally, but my Dr loves to see cases mounted on a Stratos 100. Thanks!

yes, a do use a facebow quite often and would advise it. Many dentists don't use the facebow so I didn't include it in this video. In addition, facebows vary between articulators so that would be additional information that isn't included in this particular video. Glad to hear you are mounting the cases in your office! Thank you so much am nearly convinced this is what I have after 9 months of suffering. It worth mentioning that I had a very tough 2023 psychologically with extreme anxiety and unbearable stress and this is when I noticed I clinch my jaws so hard and grinding out tapping my teeth it’s actually later i learned these are due to severe stress. I don’t have pain in my jaws but they click very hard when I chew or open and close my mouth specially on the left side where I have this horrible left ear discomfort that I can describe as sometimes fullness or a low pitch noise and when I clinch my jaw the noise gets more intense and also when I push my finger against the exact spot where my upper left jaw connects withe the ear. I find it funny and sad that none of the ENT or the GP had the slightest idea that this could be the reason. Finally I do suffer from hearing loss on the left ear but am sure it’s the jaw joint dysfunction that causes the ringing in one ear. Thanks a agin.

Here's a question; I put my mothguatd in really hot water before bedtime, and woke up with a different bite. Now I'm biting hard in the front (I have thr articulating paper) and my molars are barely touching. Should I stick with that, or get my dentist to change my mouthguard?
@dr.agathabis
@dr.agathabis Ай бұрын
I am confused why the hot water made a difference. Your night guard should not change shape when placed in hot water.
@dr.agathabis
@dr.agathabis Ай бұрын
you should get that checked because it seems that the hot water is changing the shape unless this is what was intended. If you are a clencher only then this is the right one for you. If you are a bruxer/teeth grinder, then you definitely want to have this adjusted to have more support in the back.

By the time I'm about to fall asleep, I find that my inner cheek finds its way between my top and bottom teeth, leading to cheek biting. Is there anything out there to protect the inner cheek?
@dr.agathabis
@dr.agathabis Ай бұрын
Typically, when cheeks get in between, it means that there is not enough overlap between the top and bottom teeth/nightguard. So basically, the nightguard needs to be adjusted. If it's a lower nighguard, then the outside part needs to be brought in more so the upper teeth stick out more than the nightguard and protect the cheek from getting caught.

Hi Doctor, very good video. I recently got a new Max splint, this one has caused a click in left TMJ, some TMJ discomfort after a week. Not completely sure but I am guessing that new one is thinner on occlusal. This one was 3D printed. The last one, another dentist did bite registration and didn't have me close completely to get correct height. I have never had TMJ issues prior to new splint. What are your thoughts? Will be calling for appt. Thank you
@dr.agathabis
@dr.agathabis 2 ай бұрын
Hi and thank you for commenting. If you are feeling a click after wearing the splint, it's likely that the splint makes you bite down on it with the lower jaw being posteriorly positioned (retruded). Clicks typically happen when the lower jaw is pushed too far back. Check that and if you feel that you can't bring your lower jaw forward on the splint then it should be adjusted so that you can bring the lower jaw more forward. Check out my video "Why does my jaw click" to explain that as well.

First, THANK YOU for commenting and such positive feedback. I don't know any dentists in San Diego. But you can always tell your dentist what you want in your nightguard. Simply tell them that your "past" nightguard had certain features in it and it was "the best nightguard" you ever had. Then ask them to incorporate these into your new one.

Hi, i recently got a professional night gaurd, its hard acrylic and quite thick but my lips dont close making it very uncomfortable to sleep, it also pushes my tongue back to an uncomfortable position is this something an adjustment could fix? my mouth is tiny i should say
@dr.agathabis
@dr.agathabis 2 ай бұрын
You pose an interesting question because most dentists learned to make nightguards a specific way; and in a way that pushes your jaw backwards. If you are feeling like your tongue is back, then that is likely what happened to you. Your lower jaw should be able to slide forward EASILY and freely. Also, your lips should close easily around the night guard. So likely, it has not been adjusted to your "forward slide" bite

At the age of 12 i had second upper bicuspid extraction, without having had had the option of expansion (my teeth weren't even crowded, i just needed space in order to let braces straight my teeth) I regret it as i feel like my jaw is trapped back and i have neck tension, however i don't know what to do in order to reverse it and if it is even worth it. Reversal and implants are expensive maybe i'll live like this i guess
@dr.agathabis
@dr.agathabis 2 ай бұрын
Great question. You may not need implants. It all depends on how much space is created after everything is in its rightful place. But if you don't have TMD symptoms, then leave as is. If you are having symptoms that are getting worse, then you should see a dentist who is well versed in TMJ.
