hi, just got one here the same model but with 3050ti and 8GB Ram, of course i want to upgrade the Ram and Storge, what would you advice me to buy i mean which type of them since i have no experience on that i am afraid to install something which is not compatible

People have said that the hybrid graphics is only available on the 3060 models. If your laptop is the same year and model it should take DDR4. I have a couple of videos on ram upgrades but basically you want to search for “DDR4 sodimm 3200mhz”. Lower CL values are better but probably a little more expensive.

Is a Samsung T5 fast enough? I also have a T7 I could use but I wondered if there's any point if the T5 is plenty fast enough???

Yeah T5 should work just fine too. The speed difference probably won’t even be noticeable.

Yes definitely don’t use a usb 2.0 cable. Best to use the cable that came with it.

Hello, please tell me, I installed a single Windows 11 pro operating system without SteamOS , installed drivers in the Steam Deck version of LSD + Riva Tuner + Steam Controller has set everything up and installed the official Gta5 with Rockstar Games Launcher.exe I launched the Windows application via Steam, the game goes with artifacts and as soon as you get into the car, the game freezes , I tried a lot of internal game settings in riva tunere, I also tried it in stem applications for windows in windows power , everything is unsuccessful , what may be the reason for the artifacts and freezes , because all direcx programs are all fresh for my LSD model , what am I doing wrong?

If you used riva tuner to overclock the steam deck it could be causing your problems. You should try run the steam deck on stock settings and adjust in game settings so the game runs well.

I have followed the exact steps. The only difference for me is that I am using a docking station to play. After I shut down the Steam Deck(from Windows), next time when I turn it on, after Windows loading screen, it remains black. Do you have any idea what it might be?

Docking stations can be a bit weird because all behave a bit differently. I would try it directly attached to the Steam Deck to make sure it still loads. Then try a different port on the docking station. It might be dismounting once windows loads as it tries to load drivers.

@@Loaded0 Thank you! I will try like that, but for now I think I might have found a solution. When I turn it off, I hold down Shift key for a complete shutdown. I haven't had the time to play more with this solution, but I will come back if it is working like this.

Would there be any issues with using only CL22 for gaming? I got the same laptop and planned to get 2x 16gb ram sticks but haven't found one that is CL20.

Yeah CL22 will be fine. The lower the number the better but by far 22 is the most available.

In the boot manager i have two boot options for my sd card. One says batocera and the other has the sd card name. If i select batocera it boots fine, but when i change the boot position to removables, it doesn’t go straight to batocera but will show the blue screen trying to boot. I have to select it manually in order to boot inside batocera. I don’t know if it’s normal having two boot partitions showing in the menu. Is there a way to fix this?

I haven’t tried batocera on a SD card, but it sounds like you might have had two partitions on the card before installing batocera. I would try to make the whole card a single partition then try installing batocera on it again. Also initially batocera will only take a small part of the storage, but on first boot setup it should expand the space to use up all the available storage so it might have had a problem there.

You’ll have to navigate using the touchscreen to open the app and make changes. You can also connect a mouse.

@thevampiremesha Handheld Companion is a combination of a bunch of software so not everything might have uninstalled. I would go through the Windows app list in settings and see if there’s anything you don’t recognize that’s still installed.

My G15 (5530) has bluescreened since I got it. It has issues with the brightness too. Do not buy one of these unless you want to hate yourself. My brother and father also have them, my brothers is the same model as yours except with an i7, his has been pretty good. My dad got the same one as me, i7 and 4060 and has had some blue screens but mine has been the worst of the three by far.

Sorry it’s causing you so much problems. Blue screens can usually be fixed with some work though. I usually try to reinstall windows first then if it still blue screens try replacing components starting with RAM then the SSD then the WiFi card.

I don’t remember it asking me that. It’s always just the standard windows security approval requests. Maybe it didn’t download completely or install all the way?

It could just be the game itself if Windows isn’t crashing with it, but sometimes using a different high speed cable might help.

I don’t think it has that function except for the gyroscope controls. I haven’t tried it but you might be able to run xpadder along with HC to invert it though.

I don’t think they sell the wired version anymore but the Alienware 610m mouse is basically the same but can work wirelessly too.

I would try again later since handheld companion is updated often. Also make sure Steam or another app hijacking the controller inputs.

@stephenmackenzie9016 yeah Steam will interfere with the controller inputs. You don’t need HC for Steam games since all the Deck controls will work in Steam. I recommend using Steam only for your Steam games and run HC (without Steam running) for other games.

@AdamMucha-h7s I have noticed sometimes the controls don’t work after waking up from sleep mode. Usually restarting HC or just disabling then enabling the controller in the HC settings makes it work again. Also Steam running in the background could make it not work too.

Is there like a proper sequence to install drivers? I've had mine installed but no audio and bluetooth does not work too. Searched a lot of workarounds but no luck. In the control panel it says no audio output found.

There is a sequence for the audio drivers and they don’t install like normal drivers. Just make sure you followed the instructions on Valve’s website: help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6121-ECCD-D643-BAA8 Also the drivers for the OLED model are different from the LCD model in case you missed it.

It’s 100% sRGB which is at least good for photo editing for the web. Video depends on what you are looking for. Good enough for KZbin and online. Won’t do HDR though.

Very good with video editing, but it is noisy because of the fan and battery life will not be great either if you plan on editing while not plugged in.

Yeah Windows has a lot of security prompts that show up. You always have to allow the app to make any changes it needs to. If you miss one or deny a permission it may not run correctly.

Still using mine with 64GB Ram🤣, I might add extra NVME SSD After owning this with the light gaming I do - I dont ever think I will own a PC again its just a work horse this thing when it comes to having multiple applications open, I just don't like the barrel charging plug but its a nice bit of kit.

Screws won’t come out like the captive screws won’t loosen so I can’t open it

Be careful not to strip the screws and make sure to use the correct size of screwdriver or it’ll be very hard to open. If it’s already stripped you might be out of luck on opening it without damage.

I believe the Steam Deck doesn’t support secure boot so it probably won’t work. I have read that Windows 10 should work with their anticheat and it didn’t require TPM or secure boot so you can try making a Windows 10 drive instead.

Some models don’t have an extra slot so you can only upgrade the one current SSD.

Hi, I'm having a rough time getting this to work. Win 11 boots up and runs well (very well, in fact!) from my external SSD, but it won't seem to recognize any wifi capabilities. I've downloaded all of the drivers from Valve -- in particular, the recent OLED drivers for my OLED Steam Deck -- but Windows doesn't seem to install them automatically. Do all of those drivers need to be moved to a specific place in the Windows directory? Do they need to be unzipped before Windows can locate them? I'd appreciate the help. Success seems so close!

Yes, Windows doesn’t install them automatically. You have to download them, unzip them, then follow the directions Valve provided. Some of them you need to run the setup and some just require you to right click a certain file and select the “install” command. Make sure you get the files and use the instructions from the Valve source: help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6121-ECCD-D643-BAA8

Not really sure what you mean, but if it’s intermittently working it could be another app taking control of controller. Steam does this. So does other apps similar to handheld companion like reWASD or SWICD. If you have or had any of these installed you shouldn’t run them together or fully uninstall them.

There have been updates to the bios, AMD drivers, and Nvidia drivers since this video happened and I can tell you that it appears to still be working on my laptop so maybe you can try the latest versions and see if it fixes it. Also make sure you have hybrid graphics on in the bios before installing everything.

Sounds like your model might not be the same or they changed the hardware at some point. I know some specs don’t have the hybrid graphics. Just have to hope another update down the line fixes it for you.

No you won’t be able to access the SteamOS drive so game files will have to be separate too. Probably better that way so Windows can’t mess up anything on the SteamOS side.

Most likely it’ll crash and restart or it could freeze which would require you to shut it down manually by holding down the power button. It shouldn’t cause any hardware problems though.

I assume these days you need key for Windows? Ages ago iirc there was some license thing that devices with smaller than 7" display or what was it didn't need license.

No key required to use Windows. You won’t be able to change the background wallpaper and it’ll nag you occasionally to get a license, but it should be a fully functional Windows even without a key.

Works pretty much like a fat tablet. The screen resolution makes it a bit tough to use windows apps on it, but using a hub and external monitor it’s just like a home PC.

I downloaded this for Steamdeck, this thing is useless, always keeps stopping the service. Works fine for the first start, then if you exit the game and start a new one or if you disconnect and connect the controller just once, it never works again, have to restart the whole system. I dont know who makes these, its 2024 and fairly simple apps dont work as they should. Maybe I am doing something wrong, its possible, but the app should be simple to use, start once and thats it, no hassle to make it work everytime something new is run on the steamdeck.

If you’re running your games through Steam or have Steam auto startup with Windows it could be the problem. It’s better to use the built in Steam Input in that case. Handheld Companion should mainly be used for games from other stores or launchers. Unfortunately Handheld Companion itself is basically a collection of individual software that all updates independently so things can break too.
