Unfortunately I loaned this album to our mail route carrier and he never returned it back. First I loaned him a favorite cookbook from a movie star from the sixties and he never returned it back to me so I should have known better than to have loaned this Smothers Brothers album to him but I did and I never got it back either. 😢😢😢😢

Back in the day my parents would have many parties! They would drink and dance and then listen to The Smothers brothers!! It was the 60s and this is how they partied back then. My Dad could listen to them everytime and laugh like he had never heard it before!! I miss my Daddy so much!!

I first remembered this recording being played on the old Dr. Demento radio show which was broadcast in Phila. PA from the 1970's. I have been using it as my inspiration recently while playing the online games Wordle and Word Hurdle.

I haven't heard this song for over 50 years, but I have always remembered the chorus. In fact, for some reason today I was thinking about that chorus, and thought, "I wonder if that is on KZbin?" - and here it is. Lots of resurrected memories from the 60's can be found here.

Dec. 30, 2021 - I'm 80 and on occasion this comedy piece comes to mind for no apparent reason. It still makes me smile and I'm glad I Google searched it. I'm passing it on to some people in my immediate family and small social circle. I hope it comes to mind for them from time to time when they can use a smile😊

I was probably 11 or 12 years old and there were these 2 guys on The Shari Lewis show ... an NBC Saturday morning offering. They did "Chocolate". Sometime thereafter I noted my big brother had an Album ... Purple Onion ... I stole it (and still have it, antique though it may be). The first concert I ever went to was the Smothers Brothers - probably 1963. My friend and I were in the audience for the first taping of the CBS show (wearing our red blazers). I was the first president of the NLBCSBFC! Were they to perform today, I would make a point to be there ... wherever it would be.

This was the first record album I ever owned. My father bought it for me when I was 6 or 7 years old. I was so proud to have my own record, and I listened to it over and over, in spite of the fact that I didn't get the jokes until much later. At that age, I just thought of it as entertaining good tunes with some laughs thrown in (my second album was Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles; that one, I still have but I really wish I had the Smothers Brothers album as well).

H I A W A T H A H U N T S O N G On the shores of Gitchee Goomee, By the shining big sea water, Stood the wigwam of Nakomah And the little Hiawatha Hiawatha, he went hunting, Went to hunt a bunny rabbit, Had to make a pair of mittens From the bunny rabbit's fur Oh he hunted over woods, He hunted over dell, He hunted all about, Where the bunny rabbits dwell He hunted all the day, He hunted all the night, At last he found a rabbit With the fur just right Now the fur upon the rabbit, Has the warm side, fur-side, outside, Hiawatha found that rabbits Have the cold side skin-side in So to keep the cold air outside, He put the inside, skin-side, outside, And to keep the warm air inside, He put the skin-side inside-out That is why to keep the warm side, He put the warm side, fur-side, outside, And the skin-side inside-out side, And he turned them inside outside Hiawatha, he went hunting, Went to hunt a bunny rabbit, "Hi there! oh my god i'm like.... nineteen now but my mom used to play the smothers brothers all the time and i always liked this but never got it why the ending was funny. i reference the chorus a lot as a joke and no one knows what im on about so i came to listen and make sure im not crazy and i just realized the joke is that she became an alcoholic after they broke up and as a result of this, now she walks straight (which is Wrong if you're a crab, compared to lobsters who i guess walk sideways when drunk?) and now he has to decide if this is still worth it or not bc he can't have his cake and eat it too. when i was a kid i thought the joke was just that she didn't like him anymore. i don't know how to feel my emotions are so mixed lol AHH
