Old diesel engines, even in tip top condition, are gonna struggle to start in cold weather. It's just in how diesel engines work. The engine in this truck has a fairly low compression ratio by diesel standards...only around 16:1-18:1...which means it's going to be difficult to light off when it's stone cold and the ambient temps are low. Modern diesels have much improved cold starting aids and much higher CRs...22:1-25:1...so they tend to light off a bit easier in colder temps. This engine being indirect injection also isn't helping matters much; modern engines are direct injection which does help with cold starting. Diesel engines are an entirely different animal to gasoline ones, and older diesels still compared to modern ones.

@TestECull2 жыл бұрын
@@sambiker8492 Ye I bet if the glow plugs went wonky it'd be a bit fussy to light off. They were good engines, though, not the most powerful things in the world and noisy AF but dependable as can be and reasonably fuel efficient for the torque they made.

Glow plugs are not a few hundred a pop. You can get a high quality set for well under 200$. 300$ and you can have a mechanic install them. If you pay that much for glow plugs your a chump. They don't do anything special other then get really hot. Now injectors on the other hand lol

@RandomPerson-te5rz3 жыл бұрын
Thinking about it now if you can’t do that when it’s cold swap in a different oil in Summer you should run 15w40 and winter 10w40 (synthetic) really once it get gets to +5 Celsius and colder you want to get that done
@TestECull2 жыл бұрын
@@RandomPerson-te5rz With multi-vis oil you don't have to do that. A 10w40 is going to flow like a 10w oil when it's cold and a 40w once the engine warms up. This means you can use it any time of the year, even in the winter. You'd have a point if single viscosity oils were used, but that's generally not the case these days. This is, quite literally, why multiviscosity oils were invented in the first place.

@@edwardteach1855 and if they did that themselves, why would you put a flowmaster behind a factory cat? It sounds like a waste of money because it sounds like that. If you're gonna leave the stock cat on you might as well leave the exhaust alone because it'll never sound any better. Nobody with sense puts an expensive muffler in a stock exhaust unless they ordered it that way or they didn't have the money to do it right.
