Seeing as how I don't remember everything that you have, I vote for either a Thallax Cohort or Castellax. Hopefully you have a Forge Lord and can run the appropriate Rite of War. P.S. When is your next Horus Heresy battle report? Yours are consistently my favorite. Not too long, just enough banter at the start and you know that we don't need every detail, but do focus on the critical moments in the battle.

I can see that many people are happy about the changes, I am a bit concerned. Looks like the old 40k idea and you def. have to buy/build/paint more stuff. Warlord are a company so they want to sell more stuff...isn't it?

Disappointed that the Japs got a massive nerf but as a whole the game looks good.

I saw some leaks on Facebook yesterday the cost of commanders will be pretty much halved I think for platoon something like 21/30/39 and company commandanders 42/60/78

space wolf player made the mistake of using godhammer pattern land raider as a troop transport (nothing inherently wrong with that, but it becomes enticing to move only 6" and fire the guns). Against Tau, even 4HP and AV14 didnt prove resilient, preventing the wulfen inside from charging out of it, while they might have had a chance to get close had he moved 12" and popped smoke. space wolf terminators should have also deep struck instead of being transported inside a flying coffin and used its transport capacity to carry one of the grey hunter squads. thunderwolf cavalry should have made better use of their movement to hide behind LoS blocking terrain instead of relying on their shields. other than that, cant really give you tips on how to take on this tau list, except maybe putting the other grey hunter squad into a drop pod to close the distance faster, but then you'd have to shave 35 points off the list somewhere else, maybe not take the IC and go with a cheaper HQ.

I think that if an infantry target goes to cover because of enemy fire, they should count as pinned.

Based on what I've seen so far....all looks great.....I think they are going to add a little more realism, but without reducing the fun aspect of bolt action.....I can see it may change things for competitive players....but for casual gamers all sounds positive

3rd edition looks great so far but I do have a few “worries”. 1. I hope they don’t take away “Fire and Maneuver” from the Americans. I do love my moving and shooting. I know some people have said that it would be too powerful with the changes to the “to hit” table, but I disagree. The biggest advantage Fire and Maneuver ever gave you was going to a 6 to hit from what would’ve been a 7 to hit. Now that hitting on a 7 only happens if you are pinned, moving AND inexperienced then the advantage of Fire and Maneuver is lessened, but still very good. 2. Light tank or flamethrower spam. I’d be very annoyed if the “meta” becomes Italian L3 spam or flamethrowers in Bren carriers. 3. Medium tanks need to be good. There was a reason that by the end of the war every major power had settled on an improved medium tank that morphed into the Main Battle Tank of today. T-34/85, M4A3E8 Sherman, Comet, Panther, Panzer IV ausf H, and Pershing all represent the best tanks of the war and should be reflected in the new edition instead of Dakka Stuart spam. I don’t even dislike the Stuart, but it should be worse than a 75mm Sherman at everything, because it was. Lol

The V3 changes look good so far. I just hope it's application (points balance essentially) is done properly and that WG are willing to keep up balance changes if needed.

the straight -1 to hit if pinned is reasonable, the unit must pass an order check (unless on ambush) so the effectiveness of the shooting is affected but not to a ridiculous level. It will affect tactics in the game but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Without points values, this is all speculation, we were talking about this in the shop, we have the opinion that it appears Warlord have not thought this out properly, at the moment as it's shown, Russians could take up to 5 Katushas with each rifle platoon. It definitely looks as though Warlord are going down the 40K route, if Cover save is stackable with a Down order, Vets are going to virtually impassible to shift.

Nice clean land Raider Rich, looks great, great enough in fact, to make me go order one for my as yet unpainted Imperial Fist army ! I'd probably vote for the Deredeo to do next, but be warned I've heard the arms/weapons can be a bit of a nightmare to assemble and pose mate 😱

Don't like the half shot mmg rule for vehicles.I think its fine if you are in a tank,but if you are firing from a half track ,why? Easy fix is that rule doesn't apply to open top vehicles and before anyone says ...oh , it's cause they're moving,we already have the move and fire = minus one to hit rule

Fun fact most the machine guns on the dakka stuart were fixed and couldn't be aimed at all absolutely no traverse beyond turning the whole tank they were only intended for suppressive fire and were not very useful even for that hence why they were removed in later models

from what i could understand about the pins, if pinned you shoot at a minus 1. even with multiple pins. so if regulars have say 3 pins they shoot at a minus 1. for example 3 pins. do a pin test unmodified on a 9 as regs. remove one pin and shoot at minus 1 after removing a pin marker. if you fail the squad goes down. fubar etc will remain the same. i think this will prevent squads from being pinned out of the game. i had a situation where an open topped hummel was pinned out of the game from infantry pins. in effect the new pin system as i understand it will keep more units in the game fighting at minus1. less calculations as to what is the modified hit in version 2 if you passed the pin test. it should keep the game moving along faster. my question is dichotic; firstly i like snipers and how will they be changed. they were definitely over powered for what they were. will they still be worth taking. maybe to hunt officers to reduce moral. secondly id love to see hand grenades incorporated for free because they were such a basic piece of ww2 kit. 3 or 4 inch range. maybe not against tanks because the crew should baton the hatches but open topped vehicles for sure. if you can get infantry close enough give them a chance for glory.... just my two cents worth. im liking the new rules so far. see what they do with unit costs. i got a dream. take a veteran lieutenant and let him activate 4 88mm guns against tanks. or 4 isu152 soviet bunker busters. happy days for the infantry gumbie armies.....

Warlord has clarified that you only need one Rifle Platoon to get one of each other type of platoon. You only need one Rifle Platoon to get an Armored Platoon and a Heavy Weapons Platoon, but if you want two Armored Platoons you’ll need two Rifle Platoons.

Great to see that Bolt Action is back on the channel. I'm looking forward to 3rd edition and I am really hoping for an index in the new rulebook because I agree that the current one isn't easy to use for reference. Can't wait to see Dickie's next mission...

To solve it I layered a gloss varnish on, like watered down Ardcoat, and when dry Matt varnished again.

Have you guys gone completely away from posting battle reports?

part of the strategy of keeping railheads alive is keeping them out of range of most of the enemy big guns (cant do much against deepstrikers) so if stationary wave serpents' scatterlasers could target the hammerhead, you did it wrong. you managed to steal the initiative which means the eldar player had deployed first and you second, so this really means you had ample chance to tuck away those railheads out of range while keeping their railguns in range, preferably at the right side of the table. That being said, you got unlucky with your riptide and wraithknights are always fire magnets, part of the strategy in dealing with them is not pouring your entire army's firepower into them and instead chipping away at the rest of the eldar force while you still have firepower left.

I vote for the Deredeo.
