What type of grease do use? and what do you think is the best way to apply so you don't have too much?
@FocusKnobАй бұрын
You can use synthetic grease or lithium grease. Very little grease is needed for the shutter blade mechanism. I applied grease and then worked the mechanism until it moved smoothly and then wipe off one time any grease that I see so you can't even see it but there's enough residue remaining to provide lubrication. For the barrels and aperture adjustment ring you can be more liberal with the grease.

Maybe you can help me out. I’m finding my Binos to need Collimation and since I just HAD to get water proof ones they are covered in rubber. Seen a video on skipping the screw option and rotating the adjective lens itself to combine the images. Is this a terrible idea or my only shot? Thanks. Bushnell 7x50 H20 for reference.
@FocusKnob2 ай бұрын
The problem with sealed binoculars is they are nitrogen purged. If you open it up you'll release the gas and your binoculars may no longer be fog proof. If you just bought it I would exchange it.

@@FocusKnob I sent them back to Amazon and they are sending me another exact pair. If those are crap too I’ll just make a final return and spend my money on another brand.

You can't determine that based on the video since the camera's own lenses alters the binoculars' own lens performance. It also depends on the distance between binoculars and camera. The video is a good demonstration of what you can achieve with digiscoping. The video does not reflect what you can see with your own eyes.

Yeah after looking at this model a little online there is no relation to the Company DDoptics. Kind of obscure company.
@FocusKnob3 ай бұрын
I couldn't find a website for D Optics so the brand probably just existed on Amazon.
@Mixedpuppy3 ай бұрын
This is from the German company DDoptics right? They design decent Binos. I’ve been eye balling their Pirschler Gen III series 8x56 for low light hunting/astronomy. Heavy for hunting though. I believe they have their products mainly made in Japan including the glass. Their lower end stuff I would assume China. The catch is most Bino companies use 3rd Party manufacturers and they often have competitors using the same manufacturers putting out batches appearing suspiciously similar in style and make. The only companies I can think of that make most of their own lenses and Binos are a certain number of European companies but even some of them like DDoptics use 3rd party manufacturers for their lower end stuff.
@FocusKnob3 ай бұрын
Comparing logos I see no relation between the two. You are right most binoculars are probably made by only a handful of factories who license a particular design. So you get many look-a-likes.

Really appreciate your video mate, good stuff 👍 What would you think in comparison for Astro observing on going down to the 15x70 pro ED for a gain of 0.7 focal but losing x5 magnification?
@FocusKnob3 ай бұрын
Dropping down to 70mm in aperture robs you of about 23% light gathering capability. On the other hand the 15x70 gives an exit pupil of 4.7mm compared to 4mm on the 20x80 binoculars. If everything was equal then a bigger exit pupil may give the appearance of a brighter image if your own eyes' pupil can at least match the 4.7mm exit pupil. I've read young eyes can open up to 8mm while older people not so much. You also frame more of the sky at once with a 15X.
@johnstark81163 ай бұрын
Thanks very much, I wasn't thinking that it could be as much as 23%... I'll do some research and see how much a x5 drop represents in magnification. Also what field of view is best usable in astro. It is also true I'm not getting any younger :) not saying price and weight could influence the final verdict. Appreciate your help there 👍
@FocusKnob3 ай бұрын
If you take an image and divided it into 20 sections. 15 sections would be what you would see with the 15x binoculars. There are two camps when it comes to binoculars and viewing the night sky. Some prefer the lower magnification as it allows you to see more of the sky at any moment. Others prefer a higher magnification to see things closer. When looking at the moon I prefer the higher magnification.
@johnstark81163 ай бұрын
Thanks mate for this video. I also watched your video on the 20x80 pro ED Celestron and I'm wondering which ones you'd say are best for star gazing? I'm leaning towards the skymaster pro ED as they correct chromatic aberration...
@FocusKnob3 ай бұрын
The Pro ED will certainly give a cleaner image. The 25X gives you an extra 5X magnification. You have to weigh which feature is a priority.
@johnstark81163 ай бұрын
Yes that's my reflection... Thanks for adding feedback, I lean towards the better image to be honest
