Amazing close up views of all the details of the Batmissile. Thank you! I've always had mixed feelings about the Batmissile. Like you, I thought it was a little hokey. I didn't think the special effects scenes were executed particularly well either. But, on the plus side it got us that funny little scene where Michael Keaton is hitting the switch and he says "Ok, now I'm a little worried". Even though the Batmissile isn't my favorite thing I would jump at the chance to see it up close. Also, I immediately pre-ordered the 1:6 scale version of this that Hot Toys is making.

This is the first time I've ever seen this thing. Like you, I didn't even know WB had it. It's quite a treat after all these years to be able to see it up close. It makes me wonder what other cool stuff they have hidden away.

I seem to be in the habit of going once every 18 months, which is usually enough time for them to rotate in new stuff. This last visit was incredible due to all the Batman Returns stuff on display outside of the gift shop.

Jose Fernandez of Iron Head Studios made the suit and cowl. He was the first to finally figure out how to make a cowl with a turnable neck. It involved making sure the head was the main anchor point on the cowl while also creating air pockets and crumple zones on the sides of the neck. Apparently it took a lot of R&D, but the results were fantastic.

I've come to the conclusion that the 89 Batmobile is in fact painted matte black or possibly glossy black and the production company before they filmed it dirty it up to give it a matte black appearance can anybody answer whether or not those little metal mesh inserts such as on the gun panels and just below the window seal are they matte black too or are they silver hard to tell from the movie

I see that this Batmobile has windshield wipers, like in Batman Returns, although it's not as glossy as in that sequel. To this day I still have doubts as to whether in Batman (1989) the wheel hubcaps are gold or silver. If the fuel caps are silver or black. If the nose like a missile is black or a dark silver. And, didn't one of the original cars have to be reduced a few inches in the width of the rear fenders in order to fit into one of the exhibits? I remember something like that.

Hi! Quick question: Did the studio tour include the set of The Big Bang Theory? If so, which type of tour did you purchase? Basic, Plus, or Deluxe? Thanks!
@TheProjectWorkBenchАй бұрын
Since the shows cancellation, the actual sets on the soundstage have been dismantled. They have PARTS of the sets in one of the walk-in exhibits on the tour, but just a tiny piece. I'm not even sure it's the real deal or a recreation. I was there as a guest of Propstore for their auction, so I did not purchase a tour package. Sorry I cannot be of more help, but i SUSPECT the walk-in exhibits at the end of the tour are included in all of the tours.

Good looking cowl. I love the Returns-esque emblem. For me it was a dream come true that Michael Keaton came back as Batman. I think they fumbled the bag a little bit by tying his return to less popular characters like The Flash and (the defunct) Batgirl, but I was just happy to see my Batman on screen again. My favorite thing from The Flash movie was probably the new Batwing.
@jeffhudgins7527Ай бұрын
It took a few viewings but I've really grown to love The Flash. I think Andrés Muschietti did an unbelievable job considering all the production obstacles he inherited. It's unusual to have a comic book movie that's as thoughtful and theme-centric as it is (I'm not saying it's Hamlet but it does have something to say). I thought all the Batman moments were gold. It's everything I wanted to see. My favorite moment is Keaton dropping from the Batwing with the Elfman score firing on all cylinders. "You're strapped to your parachutes!" "And where's yours??" Ezra Miller's behavior was an unfortunate distraction, as were some of the unbaked VFX, but as a whole I think it's quite fun, charming, and even heart-warming. I think time will be kind to it.

More great footage, thank you! Looks can be deceiving, but it looks to me like this particular 1989 Batmobile is painted Onstar gray. It also looks like the canopy was split down the middle and kinda re-cobbled together. No windshield wipers. Something looks different with the turbine in the front too.
@TheProjectWorkBenchАй бұрын
It's a very odd bird entirely, that's for sure. I am going to make a separate video about the car to talk about the differences, many of which you expertly identified. Good eye, sir!
@patientmental875Ай бұрын
Literally nobody cares about these cars at WB, no F's given when it comes to repair work or getting them ready for display. The 89 paint looks like its from Maaco, they repainted a camo Tumbler black & just threw in neon lights from Auto Zone on this one. Why not spend the money to do them right & restore them to what they originally were & take care of them? Such a disservice to the original builders & fans
@TheProjectWorkBenchАй бұрын
I think about this a lot. I know as fact there are a lot of folks at WB who are very passionate about Batman and preserving the legacy of film and tv production at the studio. If I had to guess, it all just comes down to two simple factors: time and money. I have no insight into WB financials or how they allocate resources, but I suspect that would play a role in this exact dilemma. I personally am thrilled to have what we have, and am grateful for KITH and WB for putting this exhibit together. :D

Really makes you wonder who is in charge of the decision making at WB, absolutely makes no sense to repaint it black
@TheProjectWorkBenchАй бұрын
If I had to guess, someone needed it for something like a commercial or a show, and they needed it black for that show, and they paid for it. Same thing with the 89 car an OnStar. OnStar wanted it grey instead of black, so they got grey. They paid for it. WB is a business, not a film artifact preservation society. WHICH IS A BUMMER, BTW :D

This is awesome. Ive got the amt kit, mostly built but have been stressing the paint forever. Some pics its goss, some satin, some semigloss, some matte....on and on. This at least gives me a target. 🤘 Im now thinking satin, with some wax to bring the shine up a bit,but not too much. Though...damn, some angles it looks really dark gunmetal....🤔

If this is the exact car that was stationed here at The Smithsonian Museum of American History for a year or so, a few years back. That would mean I got to see the ‘A Car’. I hope this is true and if anyone can confirm I would be much obliged.
@TheProjectWorkBenchАй бұрын
The opposite of that. The car in this video was at the WB tour when the other car was on display at the smithsonian. The details like the gap above the rear turbine exhaust and the closed off gun door louvers confirm that. HOWEVER, the A and B distinction were totally arbitrary, made up by me. For all I know, the one in the smithsonian was the studio dubbed "A" car while the one on the other side of the country is the one the studio called "B" during production.
@cultureministerАй бұрын
Sorry for centimeters, but are they all the same width? Is it 240 or 270 cm? I collect 1/6 stuff and kinda confused if there is a correct 89 batmobile even by dimensions. Wiki says it's 240, hot toys one is 40 cm wide but 10 cm shorter than it should be, jazz inc claims superb accuracy but somehow made their car 45 cm

I cannot say for certain as I have never measured the screen used cars myself, and I am skeptical of any measurements that are listed in official or unofficial sources.
