So much for superior German engineering. What kind of an idiot uses a foam that they know will degrade in as little as fifteen years. Having no heat, and in some areas no AC, makes the car worthless, makes it a hell to drive. A friend of mine wraps herself in blankets when she gets in her bug in the winter. Then you tell us that they use an inferior type of plastic for most of the parts that also degrades to brittle in a short time. The one shop that quoted the owner four thousand dollars to do this job obviously just plain did not want to do this job. That tells you a lot of how much a pain in the arse this job is. Sell your German engineered vehicle and never buy anything like it again!

Thank you so much good sir I wouldn't have done it without your video! I undertook the fix today and it took me close to 6 hours from start to finish. The big plastic thing in front of the blend doors was the worst technical thing I had to deal with in my whole life. Taking off the two bloody screws and putting them back on took more than an hour alone. But anyway, it was all worth it! I can feel the heat wave inside my golf mk4 again! Thanks again and best wishes!

Hey have a couple of questions has to how I go about wiring my clutch pedal I’m using a my manual as a donor and I’m using the manual ecu, engine harness and cluster. I bought a golf with an auto with no motor or tranny or ecu or Tom I’m just not sure how I go about wiring my clutch pedal
@hestermannmotorwerks29 күн бұрын
if you use the engine bay harness out of the manual donor, you won't have to change anything in the engine bay. But the harness in the car (specifically the clutch pedal) will still need alterations as per this video. You will have to sort out where the wiring differences are between the two harnesses. Since the plan in the video is based on having an automatic wiring harness, you won't be able to just follow the video directions since some of the wires used won't exist in the manual harness.you out to be able to just re-pin some of the T10 connectors in the plenum chamber to match the wiring you need.
@rixhz267629 күн бұрын
@ yes I have the white clutch switch and the black switch for my clutch pedal that’s the only thing I’m not understanding is who to wire up the white clutch switch

@@rixhz2676 I would follow the video instruction for inside the car. Then the you put the engine wiring harness in, re-pin the wires you used on the inside of the car to match up to the factory ones in the T-10 plugs in the plenum chamber

Hi I already purchased a swapped mk4 1.8t jetta. the previous owner did not do the brake light / cruise control / clutch switch. would this video still work by just skipping the starter and vss?
@hesty323 ай бұрын
well sort of. Yes but you still probably want to do the procedure for the starter relay so that you have easy access to the wiring for the clutch switch. The cruise control is pretty much its own procedure

question: If i am installing solar into an Rv with existing electrical. It has Generator and Shore already. I should assume it has a transfer switch to manage this. Now If I want to add an inverter ran off batteries... is the solution to add ANOTHER transfer switch? therefore the shore/gen gets sorted first and then feeds the subsequent transfer switch. I want to default with solar inverter but have the option of shore/gen. thanks in advance if you can respond.
@hesty323 ай бұрын
Pretty sure you want your solar to go straight to batteries (well with a solar controller/converter) when you run off solar you are actually running off batteries to protect the panels from overdraw. Not super knowledgable on the actual workings there though
@hesty323 ай бұрын
Just reread your question and yes I believe you can either swap to a 3 way transfer switch or add another 2 way up stream to in effect get a 3 power option

Thank you for this video; very helpful. I experienced the foam coming through all the vents on my 2003 Jetta so I knew I had a blend door issue. I went to the dealer who gave me a $4,000 quote to do the job with no guarantee that it would work or that they may break some parts during the process. Even though the car is in perfect condition even after 21 years and 74k miles, the cost to repair would be greater than the value. I decided to do the project myself. It took about 15 hours from start to finish. I took pictures of everything and labelled every screw. Every part was laid out on a sheet of plywood and documented. The hardest part was extracting the black box in front of the blend doors; had to remove the 13mm bolts to get the added room to wiggle it out. For the blend doors, I used the heavy duty end foil tape with the plastic backing - wrapping the blend doors was surprisingly easy. Putting it back together was just as tedious to ensure that the trim gaps all lined up. The two screws to secure the black box could not be reinstalled; I could not get access as easily but I made sure the box was in there snug with the clips. One thing to watch out for is where the radio harness comes out - if you lay it on top of the bracket divider it will not be long enough; make sure it is below the divider. Once completed I had no screws left over and everything looked good. Despite the fact that I had removed a lot of foam during the dismantle, when I tested the system more foam came out until the vents cleared out from any remaining pieces. After that I tested all the baffles doors using both AC and heat and directing airflow from various vents. It all worked perfectly. This job requires patience, a slow pace so you don’t break anything and documentation; don’t rely on your memory as to where stuff goes.
