I was born. at Stanford Lane Hospital in San Francisco, and this version of Don Giovanni was playing in the delivery room. This is my favorite opera. Coincidence? I don't think so! Mozart was our gift from God, and he still delights and amazes us hundreds of years later. This is proof that God gave us angels.

Thank you for your message. Only Mozart can write beautiful operas. Others like Wagner, Verdi, Puccini, R. Strauss and so on can't

Magic Flute 1791., is a "mosaic" created from musical ideas: Wranitzky: "Oberon, Koenig der Elfen" 1789.; Soler: "L'arbore di Diana" 1787. "Der Stein der Weisen, oder die Zauberinsel"1790. (The Philosopher's Stone, or the Enchanted Isle) is a singspiel in two acts, jointly composed by Johann Baptist Henneberg, Benedikt Schack, Franz Xaver Gerl, Emanuel Schikaneder, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1790. The libretto was written by Schikaneder. The opera has several important parallels to Mozart's The Magic Flute, which premiered a year later.

Elisabeth Schwarzkopf was the Elvira that summer, but Della Casa did the film. In summer 1960 Della Casa was the Marschallin in the performaces but thankfully Schwarzkopf did the film. Both the films were directed by Czinner.

All three elements of the final movement (orchestra, chorus, and soloists) are beyond belief. Ansermet manages to go all out and yet every element is beautifully articulated. Perhaps the engineers should get some credit also.

I remember first seeing this in Lord Kenneth Clark's landmark 1969 TV series, "Civilisation", episode 9, "The Pursuit of Happiness". When I first saw it, I thought the scenes had been created specifically for that episode...had no idea they were part of a filmed performance...you learn something new every day.

It could be equally argued that Beethoven’s deafness is proof that God does not exist. Likewise, Smetana’s deafness also points to the same conclusion.
