All three elements of the final movement (orchestra, chorus, and soloists) are beyond belief. Ansermet manages to go all out and yet every element is beautifully articulated. Perhaps the engineers should get some credit also.

My favorite performance of this music. Can't imagine any more perfect rendition. Any other performance pales by comparison: the tempos, tone, balances in the orchestra, singing... the ultiimate performance of this piece.

This symphony is surely a gift from the Almighty. Inspiring and powerful, it pierces to the core. And to think poor Ludwig never heard a single note of it. Breaks the heart.

Everythings technically and artistically right with this recording - not bad for 1959!
