What a fantastic summary of focus techniques on the M11 . I also use pre focusing with focus, peaking on to quickly confirm my focus. I find this great as well Thanks again

The real winner here is the SEM21 (i.e. Super Elmar M 21). Look @1:26:27, the SEM21 shows color moire in the chart because it actually seems to resolve better in the center than the SAS21 (i.e. Super Apo Summicron 21). Focusing error? Maybe, but I am impressed at how good the SEM21 is despite its super small size and weight. The only difference is in the extreme corners, and you need to zoom 1:1 multishot to see it. Corner sharpness performance could actually be affected by the SL sensor, because the SEM21 is tuned for an M sensor. About the distortion, it can be fixed in post with just a single click. The only advantage of the SAS21 is the extra stop and a half, which is not that important with modern sensors.

Nice. However it’s hard to check the kits with such a small image. Next time please use full screen pictures with you guys in a very small picture-in-picture placed in a corner.

A useful rule of thumb is to apply standard lengths to calulate distance. For example, the width of cars, length of buses, tiles and the rule of thumb using the parallex method.

A bit off-topic but I'd love to see a video on using M-mount lenses on the SL3 using the Leica M-adapter-L.

@RedDotForum ... On the subject of gifting a Leica gifted to me I'd like to say that wouldn't happen in the real world, as would me being able to buy a Leica. Having said that I'm now the oener of an M6 Titanium due to winning one in a UK bssed Leica camera prize draw, and I still can't afford to mate it with a Leica lens, so I'm going go for a Voightlander 35mm f3.5 Color Skopar P II as my first lens due to my low budget. Great video as always 👍

Trying to decide on a 90mm for travel. I like the f2 pre-asph #11136, but curious if the 2.8 #11807 would be a better option only because it’s shorter and lighter. Would also consider the 2.4/2.5. Anyone have thoughts?

My problem with the "rangefinder tab" is that if you try to take, say, two photos of your subject five or ten minutes apart, there's a good chance that the rangefinder tab will hang up on your camera bag or your clothing and change your focus! If your lens has a "rangefinder tab" and you put your camera back in your bag, the rangefinder tab will always find some excuse to move!
@Gravitys-NOT-a-force21 күн бұрын
I think you guys blew it! You blew it by complicating things WAY more than necessary. I have an M10-R (with Live View). I recently bought the Leica Macro-Adapter M accessory - the new version. With the Macro-Adapter M mounted on my M10-R I can use either my 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux or my 75mm f/1.2 Noctilux to achieve "macro photography." You don't need to purchase special "macro" lenses - as you unintentionally suggest in your video. If you're into flowers, bugs, LEGO toys, etc., the Leica Macro-Adapter M accessory is all you need.

My only 50 as of now is Nocti 1.2 reissue and I have nothing but great things to say about it, absolutely beautiful and sharp where it needs to be. Bokeh is also great. I have no desire so far for another 50 as I am sure it would not get used as much as this bad boy. Stopped down becomes a beast of a lens and just as sharp as the others. The size and rendition of this makes it a lens to have with you at all times. Not enough love for the 1.2 out there. Btw, great videos....Subscribed

I didn’t knew that Leica didn’t really change this technique since the M ones after WW2. The Fuji solution to this problem is much more elegant, more intelligent… and more 2024….😮

@@Kristoferzhong Missunderstanding M line after WW2 has Schnittbild-Focusing. What I saw in the video it hasn’t changed much. I know that the Leica brand always was innovative. To me as a German it makes the impression they role completely on a nostalgia trip. I was super surprised about the range finder innovation by Fuji in the XPro line. This is smart. And I was disappointed that Germans no longer show innovation to the world. What should a modern M Leica be like? With AI? With smart focusing technology… with hybrid range finder…? Something smart, and surprisingly stunning… that would be cool in my imagination… In German: Mir kommt das alles wenig mutig daher. Kein Risiko, keine neuen Ideen. Man lässt den anderen Marken sehr viel Raum für Ideen, die man offensichtlich selbst nicht mehr hat?

@@beyourself9162 Rangefinder focusing has long history in German camera and survey machine before WWII. However, Leica M1 was made for reflection house focusing system mainly adapted long focusing lenses, before the Leica R system introduced.

That is the most worthwhile quarter of an hour's tutorial video I have watched for a long time. All of it was useful but for me the back and forth movement to nail fine focus is going to make a big difference to the rangefinder experience for me. Great all-in-one lesson David! I've been using the M beginning with the M9 and now the M10, for me, I think the most valuable tip you've offered that was the greatest benefit to me was the rocking focus. Brilliant! I was guilty of trying to "fine-tune" the focus using the finger tab, but now I know better! I'll buy you a coffee the next time you're in Vietnam! Thank you David! As Josh said to you when reviewing my gear in the Show Us Your Kit episode last year, no, I do not have a farm! Hahaha! Cheers, Scott
