In German they're called Trapdoor Terrarium, it's commonly used for spiders and scorpions. For newts I wouldn't recommend them, as you can't open the door when a newt is climbing at the front. x)

Nur: WAS FÜTTER ICH DENEN ??
@AquaTerra-Life2 ай бұрын
@holdemaid95222 ай бұрын
@AquaTerra-LifeАй бұрын
@holdemaid9522Ай бұрын

Hey. Tolles Video. In der Beschreibung schreibst du bergmolche halten Winterruhe. Auch in dem Tank ? Welche Pumpe/Filter wird im Video genutzt?
@AquaTerra-Life2 ай бұрын
Vielen Dank!

I just got a Long toed salamander like the ones you have. I have some questions for you. I was wondering if you need a UV light for them?, do you need to have them hibernate or not? Can i put different type of salamander together or should I get more long toed salamander for companion for it?
@AquaTerra-Life2 ай бұрын
Please avoid using UV-Lights or any source of heat, it shouldn't get over 20°C in the tank. The salamanders don't need any light at all, but if you have some live plants in the tank you can simply use LED lights. Yes, I'd recommend to hibernate them, this will significantly increase the chance of breeding in spring (if you'll be able to get more than one of course :D ) And of course it reflects their natural lifecycle. It's always best to keep only one species in a tank. Size differences can become very dangerous and also it might get dangerous due to the different toxins in different species. It's really a great species, I hope you enjoy them and can get one or two more of them. :)

How have you gotten your's to be so bold? I just recently got one, and I've watched a few videos on tricks to help ensure she's eating. But still cannot confirm. I would love to get mine to where she feels this comfortable with my presence. Any and ALL tips are greatly appreciated, not only for feeding, but I've found major conflicting numbers online for temperatures? Thank you in advance for any shared information!!!
@AquaTerra-Life5 ай бұрын
Time and patience, a lot of both. 😄 It's completely normal that they are super shy and secretive. In my experience it helps a lot to provide a lot of shelters, the more hiding places and dense planting is available, the safer they seem to feel and then also become more bold. About feeding: if you make sure to add live food items like crickets, earthworms, isopods or tiny roaches, your skink will most probably hunt by itself and won't starve or have any other problems. :) In my terrarium there's a temperature gradient within the terrarium of about 22-27°C at day with a drop to 18-20°C at night. But I know that people also keep them slightly warmer without problems.
