Great video. I am enjoying the series. Keep in mind that even though you didn't loose much power by grinding down the battery as it was almost empty you still lost the power cells as you don't get them back when you grind it down. I usually will start building my ships off of the battery. I know that you said that you wanted to build in a way to get power directly from the base like a connector or a rotor.

Love your cargo buddy. It never occurred to me to do something like this, I usually only set the event controller to switch of all drills automatically without any notification (although the buildinfo plugin already kinda does that for me). EDIT: I noticed your 1.2k gold is already enough to get your 6 existing refineries fully moduled up (only 160 gold per refinery needed)
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
I left off the Build Info plugin to give me reasons to use my cargo buddy, lol. It is a fun little build. And..you are right! I can start the next episode with the yields *then* gold mine, as it will zap most of it, lol.

I usually use the Automatic LCD script and put my cargo stats on some of the cockpit displays. It looks cool and it's useful to just have a bar that's filling up. Also great for getting live counts of ingots and ores! Another thought, at least about the proteus, you'd probably better off just leaving the reactor on and the batteries on auto, because when you had set them to recharge during close maneuvering, you were maxing out the power while trying to slow down. The batteries can put out way bigger surges than the reactor alone can, and once the batteries are charged, the reactor will only use as much fuel as it needs, it doesn't just burn it up at the same rate. Sometimes I shut my reactors down if the batteries are full and I'm stationary in my large grid, but if I'm on the move it's always on just to keep the maximum available and the batteries at 100% as much as possible.
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
@blob537 you are most accurate about me pegging my poor reactors' power, lol. That's why I'd hit those hydrogen boosters. I'd just woke up when I made the video this morning. My brain wasn't entirely functional yet, lol.

@@strixfiremind Yeah, that's something that totally is a thing of left, right, centrist or even better beyond, I think our understanding of work is too fixated to earning a living, Buckminster Fuller once said something very important about it. I also can't work in my profession anymore and it is hard to find anything safe and I think work must be ways more accessible and less specialized, I can't remember ever having problems to learn new things to do and I think we all have pretty much the same potential. But you don't know how to really anger people aslong you don't question the property and trading system itself 😂 Though "politics", even if it is beyond it and for me actually connected to computer games, is a topic that is too controversial if one wants subscribers.
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
@Wilson84KS for work, at this time, I'm just doing KZbin and my game Chrono Conquest; neither of which earn me any money at this time, and the latter of which isn't made for that reason. I'm making the game for many reasons, the biggest of which is simply to make an IP that belongs to all of us. One that I plan to use for books, video games, and potentially film - and want others to do the same. The KZbin is fun, and I'm not terribly far off from being able to monetize if I choose, still not sure if I will; I'll have to watch myself more carefully or be demonetized, lol. I also don't like ads, and would prefer not subject my viewership to them - especially with how many scams are advertised now...yich.

On your welding ship you should try to include a assembler. So instead of going to station to re supply on what you need the ship does it for you
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
This particular welder is a small grid vessel, so the best I could get is a Survival Kit. That said, once I finish my current station I'll be able to mine up everything I need, and process it at the outpost, to start building more effective large grid vessels. When I do that, absolutely I want an assembler with 4 speed modules on that baby! LOL
@DearMrDubsАй бұрын
@ yes but try it with a rotor or hinge. I have it on my welder ship and with two speed modules, believe me it is a time savers. I also use even control with cockpit so when I get out the welder shuts downs and versa when I get in.
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
@DearMrDubs I always forget about subgridding large onto small, lol. Not terribly good at it, personally - I'll have to practice a bit in creative for that.

I appreciate the way you set up the event controllers. In the past I have only used one with a simple on/off for the reactor without putting the batteries in recharge.
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
I still have a lot to learn about the Event Controllers - but I'm getting decent with them. Useful little buggers!
@blob537Ай бұрын
@@CandH707 I usually do the same(as you, I mean), especially when I've also got solar on hand. the game engine preferentially pulls from the panels before pulling from the reactor, and the reactor already only what uranium it needs depending on demand. Uranium lasts quite a long time though, the ratio is 1kg uranium=1 MWh.
@blob537Ай бұрын
I like building carrier ships with jump drives like you mentioned in this episode. I usually equip them with a single basic refinery and some sorters so it yanks all the stone from everywhere and processes it because it uses so much volume in the cargo, so the sooner it's gone the better (and the sorter is aggressive when you set it to pull), that way when I get back I only have good stuff for my real refinery to chomp on
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
Absolutely wonderful idea; I was going to leave that off until emergency, now I'll do this instead - much better idea!
@EndlessHuntАй бұрын
Why don't you increase the size of the solar panel, that should be cheap and easy as an interim fix
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
If I were planning on keeping the outpost, that is exactly what I'd do - but I am planning on starting work toward a mobile base ASAP. Also, that solar array is losing the sun for 12 hours of gameplay (24 hour real clock in game)
@AnonNoplebАй бұрын
I am curious how you set up the power switch. Is it possible to determine if the solar output is insufficient? I never really bothered with it once I got some Uranium, but I have noticed significant inefficiencies caused by their interaction with batteries (especially those from docked grids) in certain cases. I guess you want to have the reactor only running if the base batteries are on discharge?
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
I mostly just eat the inefficiencies, honestly 😅. The batteries have 80% efficiency, so I lose 20% of the power I'm using to recharge them. That being said, uranium is highly efficient power itself. Want to get Prototech batteries; only 10% loss.

16:33 Speed modules not decrease your ingot yield, they just speed things up at the cost of significantly higher power draw (full speed makes +300% refining speed at the cost of +400% power draw). With ores that refine slowly speed can be pretty helpful at x1 multipliers, but I usually swap them out with full yield modules soon, because they give you double the ingots for your ore with literally no drawback (basically +100% speed and -50% ore consumption, but they are expensive at 160 gold for one refinery)
@strixfiremindАй бұрын
Yeah, I think I need to get on that Reactor for the outpost, so I can add modules/more refineries.

A thing I really like to do with miners is using an event controller that switches off the drills as soon as any of them is filled up to 80%. I tend to play with quite "realistic" settings as well, including nerfing O2H2 generators to prevent net positive energy setups running on ice. The new "suit up!" mod which makes the space suit an item is super interesting (takes up quite some inventory space to encourage building pressurised hangars for small ships and weld ships for anything larger, though at least 1.5x inventory size is needed in order to do anything with the space suit on). I enjoy having some QoL mods as well such as radio spectrometry or seismic surveying, which are basically minigames to make ore scouting more interesting and less tedious.
