It is a song about some kolvonts (Hindu dancing girls) who are supposed to dance at the wedding of a man named Damu and have to get across the river in time. There is no sociological or anthropological evidence for the claim that the lyrics of this song have anything to do with conversions or Portuguese brutality or the Inquisition that happened in Goa. On the contrary this song describes the plight of these exploited dancing girls who are willing to even give up their ornaments to the boatman to get across the river in time. Kolvonts were treated quite badly in the caste conscious society of the day.

@@bhagwanharmalkar7963 Bab Harmalkar, it has also been brought to my notice that the language i learnt first on my childhood lips in the company of the villagers specially from the place called 'KATODI' just 100 metres from my house ...the konkani-malwani dialect of the indigenous Tuyenkars was music to my years. Sometimes when i feel depressed or hurtin life...i would ride all the way from Donapaula to any rustic-tea shop in Tuye just to hear the local brethren speak...it would revive me. The original lyrics are about a young Hindu girl trying to escape Goa fearing from violent forceful conversion to Christianity by the Portuguese and pleading a boatman for helping her cross the river, to which the boatman is saying No as he fears a brutal punishment from the Portuguese for helping someone escape the conversion. To convince the boatman, she is making an excuse that she wants to attend a wedding, then offers her jewelry as the boat fare, etc. But he is still not convinced (due to the fear). "Damu" was the word used in folk songs and lore to indicate any Hindu in Portuguese ruled Goa

Sometime around when I was 16 - 19 my maternal grandfather cried as he said to me "Leave music...see all the musicians of yester-years have died early due to lack of sleep and other vices" My maternal grandmother was a Fernandes, My Maternal Grandfather a DeSouza, My Paternal Grandfather a Lazaro, my paternal grandmother an Araujo. After painstaking nights I composed the lyric and music using everything I ever learnt from Classical to modern to futuristic theory and practical knowledge plus the rarest of rare instruments in India my THEREMINI opening the intro riff in a alien-otherworldly trance riff ...and with the logic of having a catchy hook-line....seemingly commercial but cleverly musical and technical....a song called 'Tuye-Tuye' in the memory of the maternal s and their land and with a hint of the rustic old dialect spoken in those hills in my youth by the INDIGENOUS FIRST SETTLERS there in Pernem. Well I have got some great comments on that video produced free of cost by kind Mr.Uttam Loleinkar with himself scripting it, shooting on his own with residents of Tuem who acted so well and with zeal without any request for remuneration, plus the RDX and other channels kindly broadcasting it on local cabletv....sadly one youtuber suggests I am a LAMANI. and another feels offended that i misrepresented the language and the ways of life of the village of Tuem and its good people. I love rustic dialects in Goa of the languages spoken here widely and love to learn the same and try them out in my compositions. The Malwani-Konkan dialect spoken around Pernem widely in the hilly areas fascinated me. It also gets heavier along Sindhudurg I believe. I got friends in Kankavalli and Banda who speak fluid Malvan-konkani and just like the musical Canacona dialect of Konkani which i really love too and wished I could compose in that as well but...O well! On the contrary my fathers house in Caranzalem stands on his property since a good 250 plus years and thats where I grew up. Now it takes just 15 years of domicile in Goa to be a Goan. Its a pleasant surprise to read as these days I really feel im like a Gypsy and should learn ROMANI and not talk in Konkani. And since the ancestors of the free-sprited Lamani tribe are the migrant roving Gypsies of France and in Europe along with the talented Rajasthanis...what a wonderful artistic life full of adventure. I didn't have any other option but music to earn a living for at least my own pocket money then. Secondly, since the paternal grandfather was a musician but the maternal was a toddy-tapper by profession and a farmer, I was confused. I cant climb a tree to save my life...even If i do manage to I couldn't come down like a Cat. I found farming gave me a tan and headache. Music was an easy life comparatively. As it is I stopped even practicing music by myself in 2000. Sometimes I listen to my old recorded tapes from when I was 15 and dint find much improvement in my playing at all.Though from a unbiased point of view I appreciate the skill I possessed then compared to now. As of now...I play a few shows here and there to entertain myself and while earning a little pocket-money. So friends visit the places and I am happy to see them. If you haven't seen me playing yet...Oh please do! Cause nothing lasts forever even cold November Rain like GnR says and this musical sojourn has to end; sooner the better! I haven't even read a book in years...I used to read voraciously, whatever happened to me...where are those reading glasses....when did I start wearing them and why in the first place...I'm confounded! Now after a long time it seems to me I should give up Music totally and start forging a new path. There must be a way...there must be someway... Meanwhile those of you kind-hearted musical cinematic souls visiting this channel again and again I thank you all from the depth of my heart as we cross 9000 plus views.

Maybe because the original lyrics of this folk song are about a young Hindu girl trying to escape Goa fearing from violent forceful conversion to Christianity by the Portuguese and pleading a boatman for helping her cross the river, to which the boatman is saying No as he fears a brutal punishment from the Portuguese for helping someone escape the conversion. To convince the boatman, she is making an excuse that she wants to attend a wedding, then offers her jewelry as the boat fare, etc. But he is still not convinced (due to the fear). How would you show some Catholics culture in a song/script where the main story is about RUNNING AWAY from Catholics trying to forcefully convert others on gunpoint?
