They did a concert in my hometown of Athol Ma not too long before the plane crash that we used as a fund raiser for the high school band. Bill did a workshop for any of the high school trumpet players in the area that wanted to come. It was as awesome experience. The guy was so gracious to all of us in sharing his tips on playing. I was on the stage crew for the concert and hey guys were all so polite and appreciative.

I WATCHED AND LISTENED. from up a tree outside the Newport Jazz Festival..and organized the rowdy Crowd..who succeeded in crushing the Fence during Dionne Warwicks performance later on.

I’ve heard the Doc vs. Maynard argument a million times. I think Maynard probably had the better range (albeit not by much) but for musicality and intonation I’ll go with Doc.

Blows the socks off. In September 2024, Doc (97) and Chuck (83) are still with it!

Just amazing, I'm glad this could be recorded. I don't think I've ever heard doc play anything off. He never flubbed or fracked a note in his career it seems.

I heard this band just before the plane crash. The trumpets weren't even miked, and they knocked me into the next decade. Probably the best trumpet section I've ever heard.

Never actually a fan of Doc's playing (too bombastic, too much time with Stan Kenton I would imagine...), but he was a great entertainer.
