Thank you! I have read The Way of Kings already two times, and Words of Radiance, and I felt something like there is something wrong with me.. I see the greatness in it, but I don't love it I cannot. It is soooo long, too long, and not as amazing as how long it is. Yes, the characters are good, but the plot is so strected out, that it is not that enjoyable. Maybe I will stop searching for the fault in myself and just admit that it is not my favourite, and thats it. I agree on The Count of Monte Christo though. It is one of my favourite classics ever, its so good :D

Loved Medieval Bodies. Definitely recommend. Madame Bovary I found extremely intriguing and just really well written. I am not at all into sci-fi but Becky Chambers does the cosy vibes there SO WELL I have read all of her books and cannot wait for more! Station Eleven was OK, but the author´s political allegiances ruined it for me. On the Road though..... oh man. That is not a book. That is a headache.

They’re quite stiff, as a lot of the UK paperbacks tend to be! I recently saw the new US editions that have the same covers but are a bit larger and more flexible, and they definitely seemed a bit more sturdy. If you care about not breaking your book spines then I wouldn’t recommend the UK ones though

Friend sent this to me after I ranted for over an hour about Fourth Wing and how it didn't make sense and all the things I would change, so this was validating to watch. For fun I have been (slowly) rewriting it but with my own characters to make all these changes, I didn't want to put this kind of effort into fanfiction for a book I didn't like so I wanted it to have all the elements I did enjoy. In short, I'm writing what I thought Fourth Wing was going to be for myself. I actually really enjoyed this, you should consider making a similar video the next time you read a book that you didn't enjoy. Thank you for putting the work into it!
@mythicpages2 ай бұрын
HAHAHA I love that you acknowledge that it's kind of fanfiction because in essence it kind of is, except we're 100% not fans!!! I really enjoyed doing this and would definitely consider making more so thank you for the love ❤️
@Belladonna_Q3 ай бұрын
Rewriting 'Fourth Wing' was very creative! My reading year was kind of meh. I'm using a 10-star rating system, and nothing got either a 10 or a 1. The best was Liveship Traders; I'm still reading the last book in the trilogy and love it to pieces! Oh, and The Forgotten Beasts of Eld was so beautiful. The most interesting were The Blue Book of Nebo, a very quiet post-apocalyptic story about a mother and her son, about language and culture, and The Employees by Olga Ravn - it's written as interview logs from human and android employees' perspectives, and you don't know who is who; logs have only numbers. It's a very strange and very short thing. Worst... I would say Droga do Wyraju, a Polish fantasy book. Fortunately, it hasn't been translated into any other language, because... that would be embarrassing. Also, A Shining by Fosse - I really didn't like his idea of a stream of consciousness; it was more of a staccato noise. I didn't like the form or the quasi-postmodernism. Lastly, The Art of Patience: Seeking the Snow Leopard in Tibet - it was about the author and his love for himself; the book was only an excuse to hear himself talk. I didn't finish any of those three.

@Belladonna_Q2 ай бұрын
@@mythicpages Oh, I think I'm becoming a Robin Hobb stan. I loved the Farseer trilogy so much-10/10! It gave me such an immense feeling of nostalgia, like I was reading The Lord of the Rings for the first time in a sense. I adored every aspect of it. Liveship Traders trilogy is so much grander in scope, I would rate it a 9 out of 10-an "almost perfect" rather than the "I feel like I'm home" 10 I gave the Farseer books. I think you will enjoy The Blue Book of Nebo. It's written in journal entries made by a mother and her son who share one notebook but promise not to read each other's entries. It's a small, sad but quiet story.

What great reviews! I’ve been wanting to read Robin Hobb, Sanderson and Abercrombie. Do you have any advice on where to start? Didion has never been on my TBR radar until I heard you today. Will try it out. Thanks!
@mythicpages2 ай бұрын
hi ahhh I'm so sorry I went off the internet without responding to comments so I left you hanging. If you want to get into Hobb then the best advice I can give you is read in publication order, starting with the Farseer Trilogy! That one follows only one character's POV and introduces the world, and the subsequent series blow it open. I've heard similar things about Abercrombie, so I did the same thing and went in publication order starting with the First Law trilogy. I'm going to continue him soon and the next step is 3 standalones before his Wisdom of Crowds trilogy - that seems to be the general consensus on how to read him. Sanderson is a weird one because his series stand alone, but are in the same universe. I've read 5 books now across 3 series and would recommend either Warbreaker or the Mistborn trilogy to start (the one that starts with The Final Empire) because they're self-contained and less of a commitment than his Stormlight Archive series (that's slated to be a 10-book series). I know a lot of hardcore Sanderson fans have videos on their recommended reading order so I'd suggest looking up a few and seeing what strikes your fancy. I started with Mistborn and enjoyed it a ton but some people suggest his standalones first so it's really up to you!

Maureen Johnson’s “The Box in the Woods” is another thriller/mystery about the solving of a cold case that’s a massacre at a summer camp. It’s the fourth in her Truly Devious stories, and very well done.

The saddest part was that the non spicy stuff totally spoke to me, I feel like the dynamic was nice anf the couple too but just lile fourth wing it's not.. emjoyable when the plot lacks/doesn't make sense

God I tried to read Fourth Wing and couldnt get through it... As you said the way the powers worked and the way resources were managed in the school (pupils, teachers, dragon riders, dragons) just feel so unrealistic... Like the book made it clear the school was harsh and cutthroat, but its idiotic for it to waste so many resources, like killing off dragonriders or putting them into teaching history class 😂
