“I’m never going to read them, it’s time to stop lying to myself” - this very much encapsulates how I’m feeling with my TBR. I was going with a ‘give it a shot and DNF early’ project, but honestly I think I need to just get rid of the books I’m really not interested in picking up

This made me really want to do some unhauling too. As I’m unpacking, I’m like idek what this book is or why I’m keeping it

I'm the same with buying used books. I was running out of unread books so went to charity shops and thought to myself to buy just a few books to build up my tbr. Then I got so carried away, a few turned into a lot lol

Ooooh, Monte Cristo can be a rough read, but it's also super intriguing. I think, similar to Les Mis, that it just has a plot structure that doesn't work as well for the modern reader bc of how it was published. Dunno if you'd be able to find the exact translation you want in audio, but if you can it really does make reading it easier. That's how I got through it and while I wasn't a big fan of the ending, I still really enjoyed it.

Okay, but follow up question to the Monte Cristo thing: if you don't speak the original language how do you ferret out a good translation? I've always wondered that.
