Does anyone know what kind of mallets the Marimba’s were using?

The lack of front in the comments is astounding 3 years later so I’m gonna say something. This is one of if not the best fronts to ever grace dci imo and absolute deserves a lot of the credit for the success of the percussion section in 2019.

... What stick/implements are the Tenors using for a softer sound at 2:30 ? Plz & TY
@RennickDrums11 ай бұрын
TS-PR by Innovative Percussion. They have rubber on the back end, so you can flip them and get a different sound. I was used to the quads using mallets with handles and missed having that option so I designed a stick that has a similar ability. Added bonus, it also feels much better than a standard swizzle stick when playing on the butt end. I also designed a concert version on a smaller scale - CMS-1. Hope this helps.

Knowing what we know now about what the members and staff were going through during this season, what they accomplished was amazing. Looking forward to what SCV snd JONZ/Rennick Drums has in store for 2024.

All beautifully played and written. All the more puzzling, then, that nobody in the writing team seems to remember that mallet percussion isn’t just marimbas and vibraphones and mid-range sounds. WTF drum corps?! What happened to all the beautiful variety of tone colors? The bells? The shimmer? The sparkle? The creative use of instrumentation that would make the cheesy electronics irrelevant? Why were the 80’s and 90’s actually AHEAD of these groups musically? I mean, this SCV work is as nice to listen to as any corps today - obviously state-of-the-art - but this state of the art is almost oppressively monochromatic by comparison to what we already know to be possible. I have no idea why drum corps has let itself get so sonically uninteresting.

I know nobody cares about pit but man, SCV always has the best pit writing especially intros. Other pits always slam the keys and play super fast nonsense but none of them ever really captivate me musically like SCV does
