What you have to realize about human nature is that it somewhat perverse. You worked in the police force and were exposed to the most challenging situations people can face in their lives. Hahahaha! There's a huge joke about the price of cauliflower on the ex-pats Facebook groups. I like JP Chenet red too. I think we spend about the same on our grocery shopping as we did in the UK, but we now have the time to cook fresh from scratch every day and I rarely throw food away. So no costly takeaways and ready meals. I don't mind paying a bit more for meat as we buy direct from farmers. The supermarket chicken in France has much more flavour, I think, than the horrible white, flabby, no flavour cheap chicken. We have learned to shop around and find deals. Construction materials are costly. I have bought clothes in France but I usually buy online from M&S France or Next France, or wait until I'm in UK. Sizes are small in France. I am also trying to wear out my old clothes. What's this "rot off"? Is that a northern saying? 😅

I'm sure you tell them every year about the house situation on your tax page, bien immobilier the tab is called, I know I've done it for the last 2 years, you have to enter the house details like sq metreage and number of rooms and then list habitants if I remember correctly. Email the tax office about your situation, I expect you can get it removed. Good luck
