Hi, thank you for all the explainations about the booth. Is a ventilation system absolutely necessary if I open the door every 5-10 minutes ? This is for vocals purpose.
@Saxcomprehensive
@Saxcomprehensive 2 күн бұрын
Hi. My booth did not have any ventilation and I used to open the door every 20-30 mins to let in some fresh air. I did not have any problems with lack of air but it got hot in there quickly and noisy playing my saxophone. If you are going to build one for vocal purposes make sure you check out my video which has the decibel check so you know what level of noise it will prevent. With this booth I could hear the tv playing from inside the booth so this would not be good for recording vocals if you have a noisy household. Thanks

Hello, a quick question for you sir. What is the possible cause that the tone sounded smoothly in C major going down from mid C to low C(3 fingers left & right with right pinky on the lowest key). But whenever I try to start with the low C it always comes out off? It seems that when transitioning down to low C from D, its just closing of an extra tone hole with the right pinky, but because there is a D before the low C, it came out the right tone as air is already smooth in the pipe. But when release all fingers and try to start directly with low C, its very hard to get the right tone come out immediately...like the flow somehow not right for it and to get it right I have to play the D before it and transition to the low C.
@Saxcomprehensive
@Saxcomprehensive 11 күн бұрын
HI. This is common for people starting to learn the saxophone. When playing the low notes of low C and below most of the tone holes of the horn are closed off which means more air is needed. Also we may change our embouchure when playing low notes to get them out correctly. It is just a matter of practising the low notes. Open your throat as if yawning or singing a low note. Blow warm air instead of cold air. Blow a good amount of air through the horn. Place your tongue in a low position as if singing a low note. If low C sounds fine going down then there is nothing wrong with your horn or reed. It is just a matter of keep on practising your scales and it will soon start sounding correct. Remember moving from D to C as a slur the reed is already vibrating. Starting with C you have to start the reed vibrating which needs a lot of air and correct embouchure. Alternatively play with a softer reed. When I started playing I used Hemke filed reeds strength 2 as these reeds are filed and make playing low notes easier. But as said before keep practising starting on low notes and adjusting your embouchure until you find the correct position of your embouchure for these notes to come out when starting. Thanks

If you know alto recorder, you can use those fingerings to play tenor sax music on alto. You can also use similar fingerings to play F horn music on tenor.

I don’t think I’m following quite well, but, by extension couldn’t you say that the modes within those keys, C, F, and Bb. For example E Phrygian, E locrian, or an E flat Lydian scale could be played over the II chord? Correct? Or am I just speaking gibberish.
@Saxcomprehensive
@Saxcomprehensive 18 күн бұрын
Hi. The II chord of the key of C is Dm7 so we play D dorian. The II chord of the key of F is Gm7 so we play G dorian. The II chord of the key of Bb is Cm7 so we play C dorian. So if those chords appeared in sheet music we could just play the notes of the appropriate scales. If we saw a major chord like FMaj7 we could play a F Ionian scale (I chord) or F lydian scale (IV chord). We can do this as a way of improvising when we do not know the chord progression. However in any key there are 3 minor chords on II, III and VI. So if we did not know the chord progression, Gm7 could be a II, III or VI chord of some key. If we knew it was a III chord we can play G phrygian or VI chord then G aeolian. But for simplicity play dorian over minor chords and lydian over major chords unless it is the root where we play Ionian. For dominant chords like G7 there are many different scales that we can use. Just remember that the modes of a key all have the same notes but start on different notes, whereas the C modes all have different notes, that is, C dorian has different notes to C Lydian and is a different scale. Hope this helps to clear up this introduction to modes. Thanks

First off thank you for such comprehensive video on saxophone. I am trying to play a song with C Major scale but its annotated in number like 1,2,3,4,5 there is some number like 5 and 6 annotated with a dot above them, how do you play those notes?
@Saxcomprehensive
@Saxcomprehensive Ай бұрын
Hi. A dot above or below a note head is to indicate staccato. This means play the note short, so instead of playing the note for its full length duration, you put your tongue on the reed to stop the note short. How short depends on the tempo of the music and the note duration. But think about playing the note about half its normal length. Hope this helps. Thanks

@Saxcomprehensive Ай бұрын
Hi. The manual does not mention how to turn off the tap tempo light which suggests it is permanent. I have never had a problem with it as I don't notice it when looking at the screen. Maybe put a bit of black tape over it to make it less visible. I have not read anywhere else or seen a video where the tap tempo light can be switched off. Thanks.

Singing (even if done badly) helps a TON. It teaches you to not "pull" the chest voice and instead have the head and chest mix so you go up with no strain, your larinx does change and if you take that same concept to the sax you are more than half way there already

Right, I've private tuition with great teacher, I ve been watching a lot KZbin tutorials how to play altissimo. I had no probs to play Ab but no way to go higher, only because I was missiconcept voice movement and I was pushing downward. All this for entire year (just to learn alts)!!! Until last night when by accident I found this video. Although all others say similar principles but you made it for me. Next morning (today) play (unstable but play) altissimo D with no problem! Never thought I'll be able to do. Many, many thanks
