Hello :) Nice podcast thanks a lot for sharing! I also am struggling with the gauge in Gudrun Johnston patterns 😭😭 but I’m not motivated as you are in doing all this maths😅
@acornknits11 күн бұрын
@@knitemall I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone with the gauge issue! 😭 haha fair enough about wanting to avoid all the extra math... another option would be to size down several needle sizes until you hit a gauge that works. Although I'm not sure if knitting several gauge swatches is all that much more fun than doing math 🤣
@knitemall11 күн бұрын

@acornknitsАй бұрын
@@veronicazimmerman3294 I know what you mean, yoke style sweaters seem to be the most hit and miss when it comes to fit issues. I'm just guessing it has to do with the increases being evenly spaced, which can cause a poor fitting tube. Whereas say a raglan is only increasing either side of the shoulder, the fabric is a bit more human-shaped....I don't know 🤣 Definitely a question for designers!

Thank you for a great explanation. Can I ask what wool you used? I am making a jumper with super wash - should I do anything different as it is a super wash? Thanks
@acornknits5 ай бұрын
I used Rauma Garn Finull which is a non-superwash wool yarn and worked wonderfully! But I've steeked with superwash yarns before and it will also work well, you just want to make sure that you reinforce your stitches very well to prevent them from unraveling. A zig-zag stitch on a sewing machine would be perfect to do the job!

I am just starting to knit colorwork. I have knitted fine lace shawls for 40 years and can design them in my sleep, but now that I am retired I wanted to try something new. This is wonderful information and so far beyond my skill level that I have to do a lot more practice on other colorwork techniques before I try this, but I now know where to go when I get to this stage. Thank you so much for this information.

Thank you, I'm so happy to hear you found this helpful! Hi There! Thank you for the video it is really helpful! I do have a question though, where do you pick up the front stitches for the collar? Is it in between the two lines that you have sewn? or is it below the two lines (if you're looking at the sweater with the bottom closest to you). Thank you in advance for your help!
@acornknits9 ай бұрын
Thank you! I picked up the stitches for the collar below the two lines that were sewn (if you're looking at the sweater with the bottom closest to you). This is so the lines act as a barrier to prevent any stitches which unravel from where the collar was steeked, from reaching the stitches that are picked up for the collar. I hope that makes sense! ☺️🧶

Knitting for Olive merino is oeko-tex certified which means it is superwash treated 😊I agree it behaves differently to other superwash yarns, and might have a diluted coating. I wish there was some standardisation of disclosure including the percentage of resin used in the treatment! great podcast as usual, thanks for all the chatty info 🤎
@acornknits9 ай бұрын
Oh really? I didn't know that oeko-tex certified yarns were all superwash treated - I thought it the certification could also just relate to the dyes that were used for natural, non-superwash yarns. That's good to know 😊 The Knitting for Olive merino is such a delight to use and feels so natural in comparison to some of the squeaky, heavily coated superwash yarns.

@acornknits9 ай бұрын
I'm so sorry, the pattern hasn't been released yet 😭 However, from looking at other designs by Fabel Knitwear, I think you could get a very similar garment if you adapted the Norma Jean Turtleneck pattern - swap the 2x2 rib collar for 1x1 twisted rib and extend the body of the sweater to a dress length. You could also add in waist shaping like I did, or just leave it out for simplicity (most of the other testers who knit this dress didn't bother with waist shaping). I hope that helps!

I used Morris and Sons Empire 4ply for the first one and for the second one Önling No. 11. While Empire wasn't as soft it was certainly so much easier to knit with. Önling No. 11 is incredibly fine but unbelievably soft. It was almost painful knitting all the ribbing on this yarn. Overall I think if I knit it again I would use Empire - simply because it felt more robust and easier to knit with. I am curious if you do knit this what you end up using@@acornknits

I'm so happy to hear it! Her patterns are so beautiful and classic. Waist shaping is a breeze and once you start, it's hard to go back. I also think, since wool has so much elasticity, there's a lot of wiggle room so you don't have to get the waist shaping 'perfect' for it to still look amazing.

@acornknits Жыл бұрын
I use the width of the sleeve to determine how much need I need to cut so the sleeves can be attached. The explanation is between 0:40 to 1:30 - but essentially, if your sleeves are 20 cm wide (when laying flat) then you will need to cut 20cm into the body to attach them. Hope that helps! 😊🌿
