What if we stopped discussing such polarized topics to no avail and leverage the pivotal shift in the capabilities of political theory. The essence of need in politics, changed by the introduction of high-speed communication. Direct democracy has not only the chance to work in america, but all over the world as the inevitable relegations made by residents in each area no matter their perspective areas are made performed much better when there is truly a feeling of representation. We have proven that the feeling, aforementioned, cannot be drawn from those chosen to represent us in those decisions. Inevitably, and especially in this country, the level of misrepresentation that so much political faith is placed results in a critical mass of disilusioned citizens leading to pointless political shuddering accomplishing absolutely nothing. These truths are evident in every political process, each kingdom and everything bigger than a settlement. We selected single individuals to be a collective representation of what we would want, because, and only because we have to. Limited by the inability to maintain a larger social structure in a changing geopolitical world, we had to manage a more contained and responsive subset that with communication having not only the speed it is capable but the infrastructure allowing each type of necessary communication to flow seamlessly, we are able to not only envision something critically new, but actually enact it. I am making this statement as a broad statement not in relation to this video

Thanks a lot for this easy to comprehend video about the Origins of Utilitarianism from these two important philosophers! Gladly, KZbin recommended this video while I was watching the Explore Your Dream Life channel. I already liked your video, and you got a sub from me! 💖

Prof. Bird, this is a terrific overview of the liberal vs totalitarian interpretations of JJR. I especially found your comparison of Rousseau's idea of patriotism as like the pride of Boeing and Airbus in their versions of the jumbojet "ideal" as fascinating. My thoughts on JJR were expanded by this lecture. Thank you!

Hi, great introduction, thanks to Anca Gheaus for letting us know about it. Just occurred to me, that the accusation of modernity being primarily rationalistic might itself stem from a perception of reason as antithetic to all else - and hence of all else being irrationalistic :) :) :) that being itself a hugely, and vulgarly, modern view of history.
