His range extended to D6, albeit I have seen some say even higher when younger. It is not inaccurate to categorize the man as a soprano when most of his contemporaries labeled as such were mezzo-sopranos by our modern standards. The attempt to recreate the castrato voice here is admirable, but boys' voices would not convincingly suit because castrati did not sound like altos, mezzo-sopranos, and sopranos that were female or males spared prepubescent genital mutilation. Singers like Javier Medina, Jorge Cano, Michael Maniaci, and Radu Marian offer the closest comparisons, but today's technology and newest talents could, perhaps, make a more convincing take using a countertenor and soprano. The owner of the KZbin channel that exposed me to this music suggested combinations such as Andreas Scholl/Maria Kiehr or Paul Esswood/Gudula Janowitz.
