This was and is by far the best of the O.G. Readmore animated episodes. Was actually well written with a nice balance of humor and action, as well as being a fairly accurate adaptation of a classic fairy tale story.

I watched the Trans-Lux Presentation of Speed Racer when repeats were aired on MTV in the Early to Mid 1990's, during the early morning hours (and later on in late/night). That's how I discovered Speed Racer.

This is freaking me out i think im experiencing the mandela effect. I remember this cartoon being released when i was a kid in the 2000s not the 90s. I remember the intro song saying "Dr B and Mike in the arctic chill" NOT dr C. I remember " phil brought back to life to his surprise in the twenty-first century" NOT " in the twentieth century" Am i tripping😅 am i the only one? Did i shift to the wrong universe😢

Wow I watched this as a kid when it aired in the 80’s. Hahaha it scared me in the daytime. I think I had a nightmare about The Grinny.

In the early 1990’s, the original master negatives for the opening title- and closing credits of Speed Racer- were “lost”. Now video titles, using the original visual elements, were used from then on. I grew with this Trans-Lux Presentation of Speed Racer. Watching the reruns on MTV in the early-mid 90's in the late afternoon (and later on in late night/overnight) programming. In 1993, while Speed Racer reruns were airing on MTV at the same time, I learned that the series was rebroadcast in local syndicated stations, which reruns on Fox and independent stations, concurrently with a new American-created remake. Since all the rights were then under Speed Racer Enterprises, all references to the original rights holder, Trans-Lux, were removed. Therefore, the opening sequence included an entirely recreated logo, which most people are familiar with today; however when Speed Racer Enterprises authorized Volkswagen to use Speed Racer in a July 1996 GTI commercial, J.J. Sedelmaier faithfully replicated the look of the original episode title cards, including the original logo.

Thank you for posting this. I saw this in the early 80's on TV. I remembered a guy escaping from prison to go see his son on Christmas. I googled this description or variations of it for the last 5-10 years. I was about 10 so I didn't remember it was George Peppard. I actually thought it was Robert Blake or Lee Majors. Finally I figured out the name and was so happy to see that you posted it here on KZbin. Couldn't find it anywhere else. Brought back good memories watching it again. Thank you.
