As an irish person from Dublin i can tell you that getting a leap card and then getting a coach /train or hire a car to get down the west coast or somewhere in Connacht is definitely worth it because Dublin has lots of tourist attractions but going down the country is honestly the best i would recommend west cork

Hey Laura, firstly I love the channel - keep up the good work. As a Kiwi of majority Irish descent, I love that you guys thank the bus drivers, we do that over here too. Now I know where the practice comes from.

😀😀A few things you did not mention. When the vikings came to Ireland, they (1) raped the women, and (2) took everyone they could as slaves for themselves, and also (3) sold them into slavery as far away as Turkey. Do these 3 thins fall into the "Should not do" or "should do" category?

I've never heard of baby Guinness! What I do know is that a pint of Guinness is way too much for me. I get full. I tolerate a black and tan much better, but can barely get through a pint. Next time we're in Ireland, I'm going to try baby Guinness!

That about Irish Gaelic is wonderful. Know that once you get south, around Dingle, you'll see signs both in English and the Irish language ... most of the time. There are also places that don't post English signs at all, but they're tiny villages. If you plan to visit the Dingle peninsula, it would be in your best interest to know a few common words in the Irish language, like stop, please, thank you, you're welcome, hotel, laundry, and the like. There's another common phrase that you'll see in all of the tourist shops. I have a friend that grew up in Ireland and then moved to the US to go to school. He had a professor that was obscessed with him being Irish. Every day, she would yell loudly across the commons "Top of the mornin', Mark!" To which he yelled back "Pog mo thoin" (pronounced Pog mo Hone, she's not kidding about the "th" sound). You'll see something with that phrase on it in nearly every tourist shop. Before you purchase, understand that it means "kiss my arse".

🤔 I watched the video to the end to see if it contained any advice that the normal level of education and common sense was not enough for... I would say that as advice they are more or less valid at least in all of Europe

Yes, the Irish are incredibly friendly. We've never met a rude one. However, when asking for directions in a larger city like Dublin, just know that the street names change most every block. Thus, you will be given directions by Pub. "Drive to this pub and turn right, then keep on until you see this Pub and the turn to the M(whatever number) will be a wee past". Funny thing. The first trip we picked up the car and headed straight for the Wicklow mountains. We took only one road. Went up the mountain, looked at the stunning views, picked some Heather, and continued forward until we came to what appeared to be a large city that we weren't expecting. We stopped for a drink, asked where we were and we were told "Dublin"! NO WAY. We only went one direction. The pub owner gave us directions (via pub landmarks) and we were on our way. We've looked and looked at maps and still can't figure out how, after an hour of driving on one road, we ended up back in Dublin. We blamed the Fae.

However, you can ask about the Fae (fairies). There are "fairy circles" everywhere.

Also, to pedestrians, (at least last time we visited) it's permissible for a motorcyclist to split the lanes and you may not be able to see them. Use your eyes and ears and take care.

We've been twice and stuck to the roads less traveled both times. Visited in October and didn't book any accommodations. Easy to find an open B&B in October. Mind the hedges when driving in the country. There's likely an old castle wall under there. If you haven't seen a road identification sign in a while, look at the tree trunks at intersections. Know that bored teens might spin street signs in small villages. If the directions you have don't match the signs, ask a local. Highly recommend Rick Steve's driving tour books. Directions and mileage are spot on.

Laura, coming to Ireland in 4 months for the first time ((I am 70!). Been watching a ton of videos, & you are my favorite! Question: Can you list some hotels in Dublin that truly have ample, free parking? My family will be renting 2 vehicles, so this is important. Thank you.

Number 1: Do not tell them the truth about Ireland being western England! (Now I have your attention) 2: Do not point out that they bleated on about British rule only to give up their whole country to unelected criminals in the EU! 3: Point out that a full Irish breakfast is a total rip off of a Full ENGLISH! 4: tell them the fact that Ireland kept out of WWII whilst thousands died for their freedom. 5: Point out that when Arthur Guinness tried to make London Porter he failed time and time again until he paid an ENGLISH brewer to help him. He called it Guinness which is in fact invented by an English Brewer!

I've travelled all over the west coast. I've walked the whole circumferences of the Dingle and Beara Peninsulas, and have walked in the Burren, Connemara, along the Cliffs of Moher, and the Aran Islands of Inishmore and Inisheer. I've also walked coast-to-coast across the country, from Dublin to the Beara Peninsula. I loved the Wicklow Mountains, and the Beara was my favourite part of the whole walk. I walked through Counties Dublin, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Tipperary, Kerry, and Cork. Next time I go to Ireland, I want to walk in Donegal and on Northern Ireland's Antrim Coast. Note that I have NOT been to the Ring of Kerry and have only been on the base of the Iveragh. Torc Waterfall was awesome.

My Dear One, Ireland is #1 on my bucket list and i very much enjoyed your presentation. Personally I am of the mind that swearing and cursing are two different things. Shite and feck are harmless swearing while cursing is more serious like $%#dammit or something like, "May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your armpits" Usually cursing involves a curse, right?

Thank you for your grand advice for travelling in Ireland! Especially, I was glad that you mentioned the M50 toll road near Dublin for the car drivers. A few years ago I had to pay 100 Euros in England because I didn´t know the toll system at Dartfort Crossing near London. And additionally, the car rental company charged 50 Euros for forwarding the email of the Penalty Charge Notice by gov.uk; both being a modern kind of highway robbery. I visited Ireland many years ago, I still love Ireland and the warmhearted Irish people. Now I plan to travel to Ireland in April 2025 with my daughter and I am looking forward to discovering some of your recommended places!
