I watched this again today, and unashamed, shed some silent tears. I'm happy for Al's time for himself in retirement, but on the other hand, perhaps quite selfishly, I'm sorry for me and everyone else who will no longer experience Al's great expertise and the feeling of being in that fantastic, unique little barbershop. It will never be replaced. My absolute best to you. AL, YOU WILL BE MISSED!!!!! -Jim

Thanks for this great video. Channel 7 News was there yesyerday on Al's final day. They shot for at least 20 minutes, and whittled it down to something like a 45 second clip. YOUR video is the kind of thing Al deserves. You captured the essence of the man and his shop. Even though I'd lived in the neighborhood a while, I didn't start going to Al until about four years ago. I still kick myself for not going sooner. I could have had many more years of great haircuts. Thanks again for this video.

I went to her retrospective show three times. Seeing her work went off inside of me like a bomb. Her work is sublime. To me the quintessential post war modernist. Crazy brilliant. I wish I'd met Ruth. This video helps so much.

I used to visit with her at her "pickle factory" location and she was so very gracious. I often asked other potter friends, when you come to Chicago for a show do you visit with Ruth Duckworth. Many said they were afraid to take her time. Now they may wish they had, it was generously given.

I worked in horticulture for 20 years and loved it, then I got a job as a gardening instructor in a special needs school in England. If I now had to make a choice between horticulture and special needs it would be special needs every time I love it and cant think of anything better in my life! peace to everyone
