You don't need to cycle the glow plugs. The glow plug relay keeps the plugs running for about 30 seconds (even after the light is turned off). If you pay attention, you can hear the relay click if you leave it with the key on the glow position for about 30 seconds.

Someone is going to get hit in the balls, by a flying tow ball. It's all good until the press notices your setup was 0.1 degrees off center.
@dailyolds19706 ай бұрын
Not if you have it bolted to a hitch and use it as a handle. Really adds mass so it can't go flying. Granted the exhaust tube could go flying out. But if you're concerned you could weld the pipe down and you could make a threaded press adapter for the tow ball. There isn't really mush pressure cause exhaust tube is a soft, designed to be worked metal.

So what is nightwatch?
@dailyolds19707 ай бұрын
It's a automatic headlight delay. You shut the car off, press a button and the headlights turn on for a minute and then shut off. Helps you get out of your garage at night or walk to your door. Extremely rare option. Not even the REO museum in Lansing had seen a car with the feature until I drove it there.

Awesome car! I have a question about how the Night Watch works: When you turn the ignition off, can you press the Night Watch button before manually turning off the headlamps? That way the headlights aren't turned off then back on again. Thanks!
@dailyolds19707 ай бұрын
I am uploading another video to answer this question, but yes. You can turn nightwatch on with the headlights on. As long as the oil pressure is below a certain point, nightwatch will function no matter what else the car is doing.
@MrOktsx7 ай бұрын
I was born in the early '70s and my entire family were primarily GM buyers. I never recall anyone having this feature. I've read that this runs off of the oil pressure. Once the oil pressure drops below a certain point it triggers the timer. Apparently, the specs for this feature are difficult to find. Any insight on how this works? Anything in owner's manual?

Is the vacuum actuator original? The spring inside can get weak with old age. Or maybe the flow control valve is installed backwards? The black part should connect to the actuator and the other end to engine vacuum.The door should open really fast and close slow with the control valve installed the proper direction. Some people don't use the flow control valve at all and it lets the door open and shut fast. Mine used to open in every gear and with the flow control valve installed I could shift gears before it would shut completely. When you shut the car off does the door pop right open fast? It should. Anyways nice car. I miss mine.

Had to chuckle at the ol'' "air filter cover on upside down" trick to get more air to the carb (also sounded better when the secondaries kicked in). I had a '71 Cutlass S and did the same thing. In fact, all of my GM's from the 70's had the air filter cover on upside down.

I burn out the five horsepower motor about every 10-14 months. My next planned upgrade is either a 7.5hp or 10hp. I'm leaning toward the 10hp and putting a larger pulley to increase the rotation speed of the pump to increase the cfm
@dailyolds19709 ай бұрын
I'd be curious to see what happens to the pump with a faster rpm. I know 3045 I think is the rpm they're designed for. I wonder how it will wear at a faster rpm
