Honestly I think it would’ve been better if before we saw Sam shoot Samuel we cut back to the others and hear the shot fired that way we’re not sure if he’s Sam or not.

I think I speak for most of the fandom we would have liked to have seen Death return in the finale. Even if the network was too cheap to have the actor show up, it would have been interesting to after the boys left Chuck on that lake shore to see someone walk up to Chuck, he looks up and we at least see the neck down silhouette of Death, with the cane and ring in focus, standing before the former god, with a look of accepting his fate.

What was actually scary about this scene is Death if he wanted to could have literally waved his hand over Castiel and killed him right then and there regardless of the power Castiel obtained. Hell, he could have literary killed everyone in that room with the snap of his finger.
