All sights I was so familiar with from thousands of hours on Swindon Station in the late 70s and 1980s. Although it had been reduced to just an island platform and a bay, Swindon looked so much better then without all the ugly catenary we have now. That awning at the west end of the station desperately needs replacing now.

Martin, I have enjoyed your videos for several years, and I hope you remember my many comments praising your work. Or you may recall our many discussions about the Canon XF605! Well, I am excited to tell you that I finally started my own KZbin channel here in the United States. I hope one day you will take a look at it and please give me your honest opinion of my work. The channel is only 5 months old, so I have a lot to learn! I am no 'Martin' by any means, but you certainly were the inspiration behind me finally starting a channel and sharing my passion with the world. The channel is called Roving Railfan. Hope you don't mind me mentioning it here. Thanks Martin, and keep up the great work! (Paul Matulavich)

Hi Paul, yes remember your messages and have just subscribed From what I’ve had a Quick Look at the footage looks good, nice and stable with smooth pans. What kit are you currently using? Martin
@RovingRailfan6 күн бұрын
@@thehogfat Thanks for your support of my channel, Martin. That means a lot my friend. As to my kit - I couldn't swing the $$ for the Canon XF605, so went with the Panasonic HCX20 when it came out in 2023. Automatic exposure is weak, and forget about doing anything hand-held because the image stabilization is bad - so a tripod is mandatory. But am thrilled with the 4K 60p resolution and audio quality.

In 1979 my mum and I spent the whole day at Reading on a free ticket given to us by the then head of BR Sir Peter Parker. It was a day I'll never ever forget, I was 7, and the HST was in full flow, with original Livery, sadly we didn't have a camera so have no record of it. 2:50 you can hear a class 117 in the background doubtless bound for my Hometown of Dorking and beyond!

The Class 50 Hoovers were removed from the Waterloo to Salisbury and Exeter services due to cases of them stalling on the single track sections which caused chaos and a very heavy burden.

Brings back memories of my college days when I used to travel from Banbury to Oxford by train. I remember the prevalence of loco hauled trains (class 47s, class 50s, class 37s on freight, class 56s on freight and MGR trains, class 58s on MGR trains).

So many good memories of time spent around Reading, Oxford to Banbury and West Mids. The audio/visual quality of these remastered films is just A - MAZ - ING! Amazing footage. If my memory is correct, my most recent journey travelling behind a diesel locomotive was in 1992! Hauled from Basingstoke to Waterloo, courtesy of a large logo Class 47. . romping along the up main at speed, I was just 18. Comfortable seat, large window, no air-con. Anyway /, enough about me. Very impressive filming as always. No doubt it took a lot of hard work.
