The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were the top of the heap of English rock and roll bands in the 60s. But I would argue that The Kinks and The Who were far more influential long-term. Dave Davies brought us a hard rock, grungy guitar tone that was brand new and some killer bar chords behind them. A biting, nasty tone that introduced itself to all the bands that came after. The Who taught us how to rock stadiums and festivals. Screaming fans drown out 15-watt stage amps, but they don't drown out stacks of Marshalls. Although the Beatles and the Stones had more hits, The Kinks and The Who taught future bands how to rock hard. With a fair number of hits themselves!

I saw Dave Davies from 1966 within many Beat Club TV Radio Bremen and he played always the now rarest E guitars for example the 1959 Flying V

I never understood why The Who got so much more attention than the Kinks. Their song writing is FAR SUPERIOR I think.

Kinks had 8 Top 40 hits in the US before the Who had one. The string ended because the Kinks got banned from appearing in the US and I think the Who kind of filled the void in the US while the Kinks did brilliant Anglo centric albums in the late 60s!
@spockboy2 жыл бұрын
@@theglavine why were they banned?
@theglavine2 жыл бұрын
@@spockboy I've heard reports of prolonged unprofessionalism touring the US culminating with Ray clocking someone in the music industry (venue owner, press not sure) who was mocking the Kinks as a joke from the UK who'd never last or something to that effect. American Federation of Musicians banned them from touring America in late 1965; to late 1969. Odd, The Who are now revered for their smashing of hotel rooms, guitars etc.

Whoever says that talent is just a extreme hard work is a "boloney". I love Rock music and have been playing Guitar seriously 3 times the age of this kid... I get better sure but very slowly... and I am still less better than he is. Only hard work gets me better.. but if I have real Talent I would think I'd be very good right now. But the reality is I have less talent in Guitar. There are just people who are born to do certain things exceptionally well. That is talent. Dimebag Darrell was already shredding exceptionally when he was just 15 or 16?.. have you seen young kids these Days like Lisa-X and Yo Yo? Those are real talent.

The greatest band in the world. Man they have like 30 songs i can name off the top of my head and none of them are just o k. I am a die hard Who fan but The Kinks are king. They wrote some great songs. They talk about John and Paul all the time but for me Ray Davies is the top song writer of them all lucky enough too see them back in the 70s.
