Can sepimax zen dissolve in oil
@curlytea
@curlytea 25 күн бұрын
It won't dissolve in oil but they say it can be added into oils before emulsification. I normally add the gel to the water, let it hydrate, and then add oils directly to that. I do it that way so I can make sure the gel forms and that it's the consistency I'm looking for first. Sepimax zen has emulsifying properties, so it will create an emulsion. I think it can handle about a 15% oil phase.

I wanted to buy a very small sample of this and add it to my body butter oil that i do. Do you think that will work?
@curlytea
@curlytea Ай бұрын
It will work in a body butter... HOWEVER please be aware that bacuri butter will probably change the color of your final product. Everything I've used it in appears darker and more earthy in color. So if your body butter is yellow, it will appear darker if you use this (unless you use a tiny amount). And be careful while handing the raw butter itself. By itself, it will stain (fabric, white labels, etc) until it is rubbed into the skin or mixed into an emulsion.

I usually go for extract powders. Anything around 20:1. I honestly think they’re better than liquid extracts since liquid extracts contains water, glycerin and very little extract powder. For store bought products, I’m always looking at the ingredient list😂 if any extract comes up at the end, I just know it’s probably trash (too little to have the claimed effect)

Yep, the liquid extracts are very easy to use because they contain water, sometimes a humectant, and sometimes a preservative.

Oh no. I don't dare try to make sunscreen. Sunscreen is extremely important in that it absolutely must be formulated in such a way to make sure it's effective. If it fails or isn't formulated and tested correctly, people could be using it and not getting the proper protection. Sunblock/sunscreen is the only thing I will probably always buy from the big companies.

Also, how can you tell what ingredients belong in which phase? Lastly, how do you decide on what ingredients you plan to use in hair products or skin care products?
@curlytea
@curlytea 4 ай бұрын
Usually ingredients are broken down into lipids (anything oil-soluble) and waters (anything water-soluble). For determining which phase to add them to, you have to pay attention to the temperature information. Usually at a reseller/repackager's website (makingcosmetics, lotioncrafter, formulatorsampeshop, etc) there's information about temperature for each ingredient. If they don't have it, you'll have to search for it at the manufacturer's website. For example, some ingredients are oil-soluble but should only be added under 40℃. That means they go in the COOL DOWN phase instead of the OIL PHASE. The same for water-soluble ingredients. Usually if there's no temperature restrictions, you can add them to the regular WATER PHASE or OIL PHASE. You'll sometimes see these phases listed as "PHASE A", "PHASE B," "PHASE C" instead of "WATER PHASE", "OIL PHASE", "COOL DOWN PHASE".

If you don't mind me asking, how do you learn how to formulate products for skin and hair?
@curlytea
@curlytea 4 ай бұрын
A massive amount of research. lol! I have a natural interest in learning how to create certain things. I read not only what the resellers post about each ingredient but I also search for info directly from the manufacturer. KZbin can also be helpful if someone else has used that ingredient to make something. Then, I look for alternatives, find which ones are available to the general public in small quantities, and test that ingredient in different formulas. It's a labor of love. :D

I made my cream but it made me sweat alot...I shared it to two more people and they gave the same review...it made them sweat...what could be the problem?? I used distilled water, almond oil, gylcerine, emulsifying wax, niacinamide, rice protein, olive squalane and optiphen plus.
@curlytea
@curlytea 4 ай бұрын
Hi! Are you talking about another cream or the one in the video? As for the sweating issue, you may need to decrease or change your emulsifier. Too much wax can cause a weird build up on the skin that makes it not feel good over time. Make sure you're not using too much glycerin and rice protein. Also try substituting your emulsifying wax for one of the following ingredients: -6% Glyceryl Stearate SE -Lotionpro 165 + 3% cetyl alcohol -Sucramerge Pro (Sucramulse Pro) + 2 or 3% cetyl alcohol -1.5% to 2% Sepinov EMT 10 -5% ICE Silicone -5% ICE Sunflower

Hi! Unfortunately, I haven't found anything "natural" that works as well as Sepinov does. Sepinov is also an emulsifier so you'd need a natural emulsifier that can also handle low pH ingredients.

Can i use bicarbonate of sodium for the Ph??
@curlytea
@curlytea 4 ай бұрын
You mean you want to know if you can use baking soda to correct the pH instead of TEA? I wouldn't use baking soda to bring the pH up. If I were making this right now, I'd use an ingredient called "AMP" "Aminomethyl Propanol". Add it one drop at a time, stir well, let it sit for about 30 sec to 2 minutes, and test the pH again. It's EXTREMELY effective at raising the pH with a very very small amount so don't just pour it in there. For a batch this small, use it a drop of a time until you reach your desired outcome. You still want the pH to be somewhere around 3.5 for the quickest benefit of the glycolic acid.

@curlytea

Yes! And the thing about Sepimax is that it's much more tolerant to low pH ingredients (like marshmallow root tea) and electrolytes. I was easily able to add 4% aloe vera without worry to one of the other formulas. You can do things with Sepimax that would cause many carbomers (like sodium carbomer) to fail.

Here I was still using Purified water. **facepalm** If you're making it for yourself, you can probably get away with it, but in the future always used distilled water. I now keep my distilled water in plastic bottles like this because the plastic is more durable and easier to carry if I need to move to a different spot.

How is your channel not monetized with 7K subscribers???
@curlytea
@curlytea 5 ай бұрын
Beats the heck outta me. All I know is KZbin switched to a "watch time" standard and I don't meet that threshold. KZbin's changes to the algorithm decide who the content gets to. I remember when curlytea had thousands of views but I've always been a pretty small channel. I do know KZbin's threshold for monetization changed right in the middle of me chasing monetization. So a long time ago I had to decide whether or not to continue to provide every second of content here (in hopes of meeting the new threshold for monetization) without being sure youtube's standards wouldn't change yet again. So...yeah. This channel is not monetized at youtube. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@curlytea

Yes, pentylene can be used in hair products. It's one of the humectants in The Crown Affair Leave-in Conditioner. It's more expensive than other humectants so people tend to use it in more expensive skincare. However, it can be used in hair care. This formula (Pistachio Moist Hydration Serum) is for the face and body, not the hair.

Thank you so much can this be used in oils ? I would like to make a body oil gel
@curlytea
@curlytea 7 ай бұрын
If you add oils to Sepimax Zen, it will become an opaque emulsion because Sepimax Zen also has some emulsifying ability, but it's mostly a gel maker. If you want your body oil gel to have some level of transparency, this probably isn't the best ingredient for you UNLESS you're going to experiment with solubilizers for your oils. Look for an ingredient (or combo of ingredients) that turns oils into gels. They're often called "oil-gelling" ingredients. Good oil-gelling ingredients are things like NatraSap Q (aka Sapogel Q) or SucraGel CF (aka FSS SuperGel CF). But they need to be processed in a very specific way. Also, when water is added after the gel is formed, it turns into a milky emulsion. If you can figure out how to get ingredients from Alchemy, you may want to check out: www.alchemy-ingredients.com/ingredients They make ingredients that look great but if you're a small creator, you may have trouble getting access to their stuff.
