If the US does a remake it will have to have the same attention to quality as The Office did.... Can't be sloppy like those yahoos who did that pilot.

What makes RD great is that it's like getting with friends when you're 6 and saying "Let's pretend we're in space and........".

Can you turn the ads off? It’s messing up the sync when you watch it alongside the show. Thanks!

Thats out of my hands. There is music in the first episode that a studio has claimed and so thats why ads are there for this one. Not really anything i can do. I put a timer top right that should match the episodes if you lose your spot. I hope thay helps.

Wonderful upload, such a shame the new series doesn't have the commentaries, these guys banter is top notch, proper mates just having a chuckle together. Love it. Thanks for the uploads!

The worst thing about this is that it’s boring. How can you take a premise like red dwarf and make it boring? And the cast are all boring too. Expect Robert Llewelyn as Kryten of course. To be fair, he’s the only one who has anything to work with but it makes no sense that he’s the only one with a good character to work with. The main four characters of the original are great in so many ways. Why did they feel the need to strip away almost everything about them? And everything that was good? And I hate what they did to Lyster. I hate how they took a character like him and turned him into a generic and again, boring, Han Solo knock off.

Poor Kryton made a wrong turn. Theme song wack, writing wack, forced laughter lame, somethings are better left along reminds me of the time that they did an American version of Faulty Towers . 😮

So why didn’t they just wait till they repaired Kryten and ask him again. Yes this show is terrible and yes I couldn’t help myself from commenting on what’s probably the lesser of the problems with this show but it’s the one that bugged me most … mostish.

Was there an acting drought? Lister, the Cat, Holly, and Kryten gave good performances, but everyone else was garbage, and Lister was a bit too likeable. He wasn't realistic as a bum.

Linwood Boomer going from nearly ruining a cult British sitcom for American audiences to creating Malcolm in the Middle, one of the greatest American sitcoms ever made, is quite the character development.

Craig Charles also was on to star in Coronation Street and Robert Llewellyn starred in the Stuart Ashens movie Quest for the game child so both did great things after Red Dwarf 🎉🎉

It seems the American version tried too hard. It's almost as if the writers watched the original series and thought, "the US audience won't understand that joke, so we'll change it, dumb it down or try to put an explanation in the conversation". As for the cat being female, that's a big mistake. The original cat was self obsessed and was an unwilling participant in practically anything that didn't involve fish or fashion! The dynamics change completely making the cat female. When we get American comedy in the UK, it's not changed, we either love it or hate it. We don't need it explaining to us. If we don't understand the references sometimes, if the writing is good, that doesn't affect the hilarity of the moment. When you have to explain things in comedy, it's no longer funny and completely misses the mark and that is what has happened here. When you look at comedy, the best laughs come from the unexpected, a bit like jump scares. If you have to set up the joke it has less impact and quite a lot of the time the audience is at the punchline before it arrives and is therefore underwhelming. Sometimes this works, if used skillfully for a bigger laugh further along, but "dumbing down" from the start, will kill things off quite rapidly. I dread to think what an American version of The Young Ones would look like!

The best bit and most Red Dwarf-y, to me at least, is the reading the fire exit sign joke. I genuinely laughed heartedly at that, so I am assuming that was a Doug Naylor or Rob Grant input, does anyone know? Really hate how they had Jane Leeves' hair and the fact that you can see the top of her neck irritates me, just breaks the immersion. Other than that, it wasn't as bad as I had thought it was gonna be so I am thankful you uploaded it and that I finally had the stomach to watch it! Thank you!

This is a re-edited version, removing the audience laughter, and replacing the Holly inserts with the claymation Dwayne Dibley, which unfortunately gets shown over Craig Charles as he grab his crotch to reach the high note
