Something that terrifies me about the T'au is actually the Greater Good dogma itself. Consider the amount of horrifying experimentation people have gone through in order to create medicine. While ethical medical testing doesn't need a live subject, or at least not a human one, ethics and the greater good are not connected. If it's for the greater good, the Earth Caste will gladly infect test subjects with disease, natural and Nurgle alike, if it means they can make a cure. Just use the Japanese POW camps in WWII as an example of what kind of experiments are deemed "acceptable" so long as there is some kind of progress towards the Greater Good. I imagine many of these T'au will clock in at the Earth-Caste lab with a smile on their face as the new subject for Nurgles Rot research is strapped to a table awaiting his next injection. Sure, he'll cry and beg, but that doesn't matter, the experiments are for the Greater Good.
