We played with Jarts and actually played the game in the 70s I’m 64,a baby boomer, and I survived every toy that they were trying to kill us with in the 60s and 80s.

These things became obsolete because the industry wanted them to be obsolete, because if they were still manufactured there would be people who would buy them. People buy anything.

Glass bottles, with all their breakage issues, baby bottles, or not, are still on the market. And I never saw one of those baby bottles in the 1970s. Try the 30s or 40s. Try again.

Many of these items lasted well past the 1950s. Many were common into the late 1980s and even the 1990s. I remember when my mother got her first automatic washer in the early 1960s. We did not get our first color TV until 1972. Even today, I use a reel mower and I still use a stovetop percolator.

There are some anachronisms and errors in this - acoustic 78 rpm record players in the 1960s, aluminum ice cube trays described as steel, TV sets and other devices that were not 1960s models. That's how history is, though, it's never accurate in all its details. People who did not live it get it wrong - and the longer ago it was, the less accurate it is.

I recently saw someone using a "reel type" lawnmower and they still sell them. An interesting fact about reel type mowers is that they actually cut the grass better than a power mower, cleaner cut and more uniform. You can even put a bag attachment on them. Having a small lawn, i'm tempted to get one from Home Depot. No gasoline, and they're quiet, and fun to use.

Most of the lung cancer began when there were asbestos used in cigarette filters, also there is many additives and chemicals added to the final product to make people quit then become obese and fat with other health related problems. Americans don't realize that the companies ,corporations and government work hand in hand to make profits off illness and sickness.

I truly believe part of family lives missing today was the gathering around a TV to watch a favorite show. Television WAS the entertainment for most to spend time together with so many choices and varieties of programs to choose from. I remember the adults sat in the couches and chairs while us kids laid on the floor, until someone asked one of us kids to get up and adjust the rabbit ears to stop the "snow" on the screen BTW...ask a kid what snow means while watching TV today, and see if they know what your talking about.😀

Re. alarms... and how did you know what time it was, exactly? Picked up that Bakelite phone that could double as a self defense weapon, and call Time (I forget what the number was), and they would count down every minute for you.

The calculators didn't INITIALLY render the slide rule obsolete. My Father bought a Texas Instruments calculator in the mid 70s, it was around $300 at the time (about $1,921 today).
