How much do you think replacing battery and SMD capacitors should cost? I’ve been quoted over £250 and I only bought the JP for £700 so wondering if I should look elsewhere.

My S5000 suddenly won’t turn on, even thought it’s just been sitting in a covered rack case for a year. Power supply “looks” fine, nothing looks blown and there wasn’t any sort of pop when turning it on. Could it be a fuse? I can’t find where that would be

Thanks for the video! I just got ahold of 2 of these units from a local music store. I was given 1 of the units for free since it had some non responsive buttons on the key pad. For anyone interested - a nice mod I made to my unit besides replacing the display just like in the video - was to replace one of the midi ports, in my case midi out 1, from the stock 5-pin midi connector to a 8-pin din/midi connector (a 7-pin din would work for this mod well). Internally I then routed the respective pins to midi 1 out, midi 1 in as well as DC power in. One end of the 8-pin din cable plugs into the unit and the other end of the 8-pin din cable (which sits hidden behind the rack) goes into a breakout connector with a female 8-pin din on one end that breaks out to midi in, midi out and dc input. It looks very tidy having all the connections including power going through just 1 single cable. If you don't need midi in, you could perform the same modification but connecting midi out 1 and 2 instead. That would however require a 8-pin din port due midi out requiring 3 pins each. Oh yes, @bradthx mentions the metal nuts - so called "palnuts" - that hold the button boards. I've read up on those and they are single use nuts which are sort of designed to not come off. That makes servicing the keypads a hassle since the chassis molded plastic screws that hold the boards break very easily if trying to mess with the palnuts. Since the screw thread is plastic it's very brittle. Your best bet for servicing the key pads would be to somehow try and break the palnuts using some mini pliers, but you would have to be extremely careful not to break the plastic. Rare 7.5VAC power adapter: I've managed to run my unit off of 9VDC with no problems. Maybe it's not 'correct' but it seems to work for now. Hope this helps anyone looking to service their unit! Great videos thumbs up to you Brad. One thing I noticed that you didn't fix the volume. Is it something internal to be adjusted? or is there something else that can be done? I have a JX-8P and a Super JX-10 and noticed that you pretty much have to have the slider on both all the way up to get a decent volume. Is that a Roland issue? I know the video is 4yrs old but if you get this reply and can give something more on the volume issue it would be well appreciated. Thanks

Interesting! The same muting transistor arrangement is notorious for killing outputs on the Alesis Ion and Micron, when the transistors go bad. I have a Nord Modular here with quiet main outs - changed the caps, no fix, so hoping to find the same muting transistor issue is to blame (although no access to schematics.)

This video is insanely useful for me as a new(ish) ESQ-1 user! I had no clue about the capacitors on the power supply board--is there any risk of damaging the rest of the synth if I don't replace those before they fail? Thanks so much for the great video!

I just pulled up the Pin 2 wire on the Ribbon Cable mentioned @26:50 and immediately my JP8K began to output sound again! So it's probably C219 that goes bad first for most of these synths.. likely C219 shorts to Gnd and the PNP transistor on the MAIN board (Q6) that turns MUTE on/off never gets shut down.. it's always biased ON, supplying the 12v out to the MUTE transistors on the audio/jack board. SHORT OF IT IS... if you simply pull the bottom cover off, undo that black ribbon cable from the MAIN board and bend that #2 wire back so it wont go into the socket when you put the ribbon cable back in.. then turn it back on, you'd likely hear your synth play again. P.S. MY SYMPTOM was NO AUDIO at the L/R Outputs and very LOW output on the Headphone output.

You said the oscillator is digital, not analog. Where did this information come from? How is the signal generated inside the oscillator? There is a lot of controversy about this on the Internet... Do you have any evidence? So it turns out that aJuno is not an analog synthesizer, but a hybrid? (Digital osc + analog filter)

@@unowamusicent.3702 synthesizer manufacturers do not agree with you... it is known that the CASIO CZ-101 synthesizer contains oscillators called DCO, but it is a completely digital synthesizer. By the way, it came out a year earlier than Alpha Juno... so why couldn’t Alpha June have digital DCO oscillators? The same can be said about Kawai K1, K4 - digital oscillators are called DCO.... or do you really think that it is analog since it is written DCO? ))) Interesting fact. Roland coined the acronym DCO. So, if you look at the service manual of the first Junos, you will see that by DCO they mean an Intel counter chip. But not a waveform generator. Everything that generates a saw, pwm, is no longer DCO, but a WAVESHAPER. They have this written quite clearly and unambiguously in their official manual. But everyone on the Internet "waveshaper chip" calls the - a "DCO chip". Strange misconception.

FYI the Stage 2 used Eibach Springs and sways, not coilovers. My IS is Feb 02. I was visiting all the dealers than sold Ltunes back then and was a member of the My.IS website forum and all we did was talk about the car. They were specifically Eibach relabeled springs, and the sways. Also TRD was behind Ltuned. I mean it was basically Lexus's version of TRD. Here in LA I still see them here and there. I found a body shop here the other day that looks brand new and Im gonna have them repair my front bumper and rear and make a video one of these days. But I love this one.

I know this is 6 years old but nice to see an L-Tuned on youtube. I have an 02 and I was one of those conversion L-Tuned. My guy at South Bay Lexus got me the body kit with badges, I got the mats later. Had the exhaust already as my first purchase for my IS. Somewhere in the original months I got the Eibach springs and sway bars that Lexus used for stage 2. Then later got not 1 but 2 sets of Rays SS7 wheels. So I have everything except for that badge on the dash. Mines has a recently replaced and painted hood so it looks pretty good. But my Ltuned front bumper and rear valance sit in the garage. They need some paint. But rolling around with just the sides and the wheels in blue by the way, it still gets a thumbs up look here and there when I do pull it out the garage here in LA. I stopped the video when you mentioned doing your sides (6 years ago I assume). I remember redoing mines with the 3M heavy duty. I swear I did a way better job than the original installer I used. I did mine probably 18 years ago and they still are on there strong as day 1.

I've been trying to do this same repair with no success. Unit had very low output. I replaced all the surface mount caps on the main board, then got no audio at all. So I replaced all the caps on the jack board, and now there's a sawtooth hum on the left output. Still no audio from headphone jack or the right channel. I have experience soldering and doing cap replacements. I've never had issues like this. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have two of these. The first one failed some months ago, and since it was still in warranty Polk sent a replacement power supply board. That solved the problem, but it never sounded as good as the original did. And then yesterday, the second one (which I use with my computer) died. Before its death, that one sounded incredible. I must have had it very well adjusted for that environment. Consequently, I am done with this and have bought a non-Polk replacement for the computer which should arrive in a few days. Perhaps I will try to replace caps on the dead ps board, but I find that the time required to procure parts, dis- and reassemble, and swap parts is probably not work my hourly pay rate. So more than likely, this second dead subwoofer will just sit around unusued until I can work up the nerve to just dispose of it. On the other had, it does have a perfectly good driver and could be externally powered. Maybe that's good enough reason to let it clutter my space a while longer.
