Wouldn't an angel have at least human level intelligence? The whole plot of the movie hinges on Jean Jacket thinking and acting like an animal.

The one thing I've been mulling over the past week now is the question why Longlegs is targeting families with girls that are specifically 9 or 10 years old on their birthdays. People usually say that Longlegs is just demented and wants to appease Satan in this manner. I think it's more than that. My theory is that Longlegs is Lee's dad. Think about it. The running theme with the families is that they're always a father, a mother and a daughter. Lee, as far as we could tell, didn't have a father figure. It was just Lee and her mother. As to what happened to the dad, it's not mentioned at all. We can speculate that he died. Or had been divorced. I'm not catholic, but divorce is highly looked down upon in the church as far as I understand. I think Lee's dad and mom had separated long before the events In the film, possibly when Lee's mom gave birth or possibly after. Something must've happened to his mind that he became obsessed with birthdays, reminding him of his daughter. The statement where he says, "You probably dont recognize me. Seems that I got my longlegs today" is highly suggesting, in my mind at least, that he's trying to talk to his daughter. And Lee's mom doesn't recognize him because it's been years and he's completely changed. Among other things, the scene with him screaming about revenge in his car, suggests that he's doing what he's doing to get back at the mom. For taking his daughter away from him and making her witness these horrible crimes. But that's just a theory.

I thought much of the same but the mom not recognizing him due to time is a huge leap to make. But yeah, if all families have the father committing the murders why did longlegs do Lee’s family different?
@DrKhaos23
@DrKhaos23 6 ай бұрын
@@cal_818 I know, it's definitely just a theory, more headcanon than anything. Not much to prove. But that's the thing,,why did he do it differently with Harkers family? Maybe that was the starting point. Then again there's really not that much to go off of. The story is quite ambiguous in itself

She was the seventh one targeted by long legs and also anyone getting upset about the ending, her being unable to do anything at the end makes sense because either she is being affected by the devil or the fact that she is being forced to stop her mentor in the fbi or her mother by force, and ends up having to shoot both

It's hard to extract the 'ways of grief' idea when all the characters, both in black and white and color, appear to be stunned by grief. In the end, I felt cheated.

Seriously, it was a fantastic historical psychological horror film. It was extremely accurate but this series is amazing. It actually takes a brain to enjoy them, something lost in most movies today. Also Mia Goth was incredible, her monologue felt so real I couldn’t believe it

TENENT was probably Nolan’s worst film.. but he then he followed it up Oppenheimer which his probably his best film. A 3 hour film where the majority of scenes are people talking I rooms had me on the edge of my seat.. an astonishing achievement.

Let me just preface this by saying I am a BIG fan of Beau Is Afraid (BIF), and both of Ari Aster’s other films - however, I think for you to say ‘essentially, if you have a problem with Beau Is Afraid, you have a problem with [Ari Aster’s] other movies’ is pretty disingenuous, and arguing in bad faith actually. Although BIF is definitely thematically and aesthetically related to Aster’s first two films (the classic ‘Asterisms’ are all here, such as head trauma/decapitation; drug induced paranoia; anxiety stemming from and centring around family relationships; generational trauma and mental illness; a sense on inevitability; and an ambivalent conclusion), BIF is also fundamentally challenging and different in ways that Hereditary and Midsommar just aren’t. The storytelling of his first two films is literal and realist by comparison, and the structure of those stories is fluid and linear - you can easily see how these films would have a shared, overlapping audience. BIF, on the other hand, is deliberately episodic and jarringly paced. There’s also a surreal, expressive and (especially towards the end) absurdist quality to BIF that doesn’t let up for the full three hour runtime, which is challenging for any audience and not at all like his other films. So whilst I agree that the marketing around BIF made efforts to manage our expectations around how different it would be from Aster’s other films, I don’t think it’s justifiable to say that people who didn’t like BIF are being unfair, or hypocritical within the context of Aster’s filmography

The "problem" with this film is that it's a work of art. Most people nowadays are used to films as a product. The difference between a product and art is that the primary aim of a product is to satisfy the demands of as many people as possible (which makes sense since we live in a capitalist society where economic growth is an essential goal). Art however is made with an intrinsic motivation. Ari Aster didn't make this film to please all of its viewers. He made this film simply because he wanted to, he made it because it was his personal artistic vision. He knew that casual moviegoers would dismiss this film as being too long and too confusing, but he doesn't care about that because these are not the people this film was meant for. Beau Is Afraid is not dedicated to people who simply want to be entertained, it is dedicated to those who really care about what he has to say. This is not to say people _have_ to like this film. If it's not your thing, that's no problem, but don't pretend like you not enjoying it makes it a bad film...

absolutely agree. Its sad that one of the most interesting movies of past few years came by unnoticet by many. i gat critisism but its dumb to call movie bad because its abstract and diffrent then usual things. it was definitely a hard sell but it was a cinema at its finest, and then people will complain that cinema is dying and only blockbusters rule. It is my favourite movie of the so far and. Me and my homie went out of cinema shocked but satisfied and after a bit (long bit) of a talk movie bacame so clear. I will preech Ari Aster church to everyone i know.

My biggest gripe with this film, is also what will benefit it in the long run and that is this being a soft(est) reboot. They clearly want to set up SAW XI and maybe even SAW XII - They need a big focus and they have it with Cecilia's character. I think they didn't want to kill her off so they can use her in the next film(s), but that also makes the biggest downside to Saw X by itself.
