Thanks for the video and I have this! And absolutely love it. But since a few months, it's got some problems, and one that bugs me the most is the shutter opening up closed, until I take a blank photo to open it up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r32umYakZahsZqs if the OP or someone else can help.

Really enjoyed this one thanks. I am a big fan of Stephen Shores work w color photography from the 70s etc. using large format/rangefinder to get superb quality images. I was looking for something similar from Japanese photographers from that era. Apart Daigo, any other recommendations in color? Thanks

Old Man Bojangles got that Hobby Lobby money now, so he's living large at his retirement community. Framing work is really the best idea. I keep getting close to doing it, and just haven't really finished doing it. I think I have one piece that is framed...and sitting in the basement (where I have all my photography stuff). Hope you find the states agreeable after your time in Japan. I know it isn't all roses over there, but it must be kind of a wild switch. Catch you on the next video my man

I'm floored how these have come back around again. I have one, that I got new as an Xmas gift in 1983. It was the coolest that it was automatic. This was the first auto-everything camera I remember. It's been 40 years and I still have it. It still works. You're the only review who mentions the two stage shutter depress for select focusing. That was a lot of fun making minimal depth of field photos with a point and shoot camera.

My first time checking you out and hoping you do more. I see that your other videos are a year ago and older but I’ll still check them out. I like the easy going style and vibe of this video. Also, interested in seeing more about Tennessee because I have a good friend who lives south east of Nashville near Smyrna and she spoke a lot about the tornadoes out there recently. Her hometown is Columbia and it suffered a lot of damage. It’s always cool to see vloggers in locations you dont normally see. Keep it coming! 👍🏽

@phatdawg1

just bought this and it has more so frustrated me. when you set the camera to produce RAW files, they come out as DNG files on the computer for some reason. the interface is really laggy when switching between shutter and aperture. the battery life is terrible on this camera. i will probably have to buy two new batteries for it smh. had it on my charger all night and when i woke up, the camera didn't charge at all for some reason? manual focus is a pain in the ass to use on this camera. i bought my camera in excellent condition so im not sure why some of these things are happening. not a great experience with this camera so far personally...
@ZoneFocused
@ZoneFocused 9 ай бұрын
Man sorry to hear you've been having a bad experience with it. I can't speak on the RAW files because I exclusively shoot JPEG with the camera. I have heard that shooting RAW or RAW+Jpeg will slow the camera but I'm not sure because I've never shot it that way. Haven't tried to manual focus it either. The autofocus and snap modes have been all I need. Maybe new batteries could help or an external charger for the batteries. Shooting only JPEG my batteries last for a really long time. I also don't chimp through the day so maybe that keeps it going too. Hope it gets better for you!

Ricoh only implemented the snap focus function because autofocus on these cameras was at the time fairly unreliable. But other small sensor manufacturers such as Panasonic and Olympus already had this feature, known as 'back button focus'. That said, I love my GR, and will often favour taking it out over my others, because it's so small. The GR (mine is the even older GRD IV) reminds me of my old Olympus XA film camera, which was always in one of my pockets. A smartphone will never replace a camera.
@ZoneFocused
@ZoneFocused 9 ай бұрын
Yea the GR is my favorite pocket camera for sure. I didn't know snap and back button focus were the same. I thought back button focus was just that, push the back button to focus on the AF point, then you can hold it and take photos. The snap on the other hand didn't rely on the af point and didn't need a second button to press to focus and photograph. Slight difference in process but I can see the similarities
@tomfenn7149
@tomfenn7149 9 ай бұрын
@@ZoneFocused It can be that. But it can also be 'press and leave'. So if you point the camera at an object 1m away, or 1.5m or whatever, if you have 'reset lens' turned off in the menu, whenever you turn the camera off and on, that distance is remembered.
