Hi Wild Willow, I haven't read the comments, someone may have already suggested this, but the cards that you are engraving, are they 201 stainless steel or 304? The 304 has superior corrosion resistance due to its higher nickel content. Maybe this helps.

@russwilliams47772 күн бұрын
Stainless steel shouldn't rust under normal conditions, as that's kinda the point, but a lot of Chinese-made stainless barely qualifies for the grade... and if it's not a specific grade (e.g. 304 or 316) then there's a good chance that it's just a random steel alloy with some chromium, and doesn't have any stainless properties.

Fixtures, not jigs. A fixture holds a part. A jig guides a tool.

@WildWillow could you please consider doing a tutorial on how you made the red white and blue patches please as I can't see those three colours as an option on rowmark. Thanks. Do you recommend the Lasertre K1 please as its not in your list? Thanks

Hi Emily, hope all is well. Which ones are good with the 20w S1 laser and also do they have smaller materials to run materials tests with so you’re not using a good piece of material?? Thanks.
@WyldeWillow6 күн бұрын
You can order samples from them. Only one you might have a hard time cutting through is the acrylic that has a white base layer. I have cut it in the past on my D1 20W but it took so long and lots of test.

If you dont mind, are you buying the acrylic with adhesive on the back? if so, which one are you using? If not, what adhesive are you using? mahalo!

@WyldeWillow I have watched a couple of your videos and decided to watch this, your very first one. As a result I subscribed. How ever did you rig up two remote controls for your rigs, are they wired or wireless please, Ill have to look now to see if youve done a how to.

I will say automotive clearcoat will stop the rust from happening on metals.

Ive seen its super hard to duplicate the colors. Seems like the next day the same settings may produce colors that are just ever so slightly different. So if it matters, do all the components that need to match at the same time. Did you by chance contaminate the Stainless? Using some steel wool or wire brushes or anything with embedded steel in it can contaminate it. It may just be poor quality metal as well (most likely). Ive lasered a bunch of stainless tags and Im looking at one from a year ago and its got no rust or anything like that. Ive got a lot of these stainless tags, I can send you some if you want to try with them. Also, stainless tags heat up and warp pretty easy, even if pretty thick. The ones im using are like 0.1" (3/32) or more.

Stainless steel has a protective oxide layer which was removed during laser engraving. Restore it through a process called passivation. Consider using citric acid passivation to reestablish the oxide layer.
@spencerc40548 күн бұрын
Isn’t that stainless steel? Also, try just spraying a small layer of a polyurethane over it. Now, I act like I know what I’m talking about…. I have yet to do color on mine. The other thing to consider (or so I’m told) - is that it depends on the type of stainless steel (colors allegedly will change). Also, you probably have one and I missed it, but get a vacuum system set up for that.

@WyldeWillow9 күн бұрын
Have you tried building up the bottom plate with a rag? Try building it up more in the middle and tape it down. It's definitely a pain but I used mine to make thousands of hats. For the price it's a good starter press. The Stahls that cost almost 2000 is not perfect either.

Hey there! I’m starting a home engraving business and have been watching your videos (as well as a handful of other channels) for nuggets of information. I was wondering; is it necessary to have a graphics designer app such as Adobe Illustrator and Affinity or do you do a lot of your work out of Lightburn? It seems to do everything that those other apps can do. TIA!!
@WyldeWillow9 күн бұрын
I personally do everything with lightburn but I really want to learn another software like Adobe Illustrator. I would say you can pretty much do anything on lightburn but you can do a little more on a actually graphic design software or atleast do things easier. But honestly lightburn is super powerful and can pretty much do anything.

Could you show a sample to your test cards from your CO2 laser or are they pretty much the same?

For C02 I usually run my cards from 10 to 25% on power and 300 to 600 on speed. I have a 100W C02.

AMAZING WORK!!! I have 2 questions. You talked a little about the Laser Tree 20/40/60w. I’m looking to upgrade and that one is on my list. I have not seen any honest reviews (pro & cons) and in action comparing work quality to a CO2. Have you done a review yet? 2nd question is, Have you used this diode laser to make any of your patches? Keep up the excellent work & videos!!! Thank you!
