They varied a bit, but most were 13” to 14” on the big end and 10” to 11” on the smaller end. The big beams were larger. They are old growth southern yellow pine so they were very dense grain and HEAVY!!🤣🤣

So I love to free range but last month something killed them 😢 cam home to find feather everywhere no bone or carcass how do you keep them safe?
@natureartgirl22 күн бұрын
Oh, I’m so sorry!!! 🥲 We do have a lot of predators here too. Dogs, foxes, raccoons, and even a few bobcats and coyotes. We have about 2 acres fenced in for them and our dogs. Also, Indy is very protective and he watches for hawks and even vultures. He runs them off. He has taught our other two dogs also. So they have a pretty good guard over them most of the day. It’s rough to lose one, you do get attached to them. Sorry!!!!

@natureartgirlАй бұрын
We spent about $500 on the materials, but that was only because we have a little sawmill and cut all the wood ourselves from trees we had left from building our log cabin. We also had the roof metal already that we got cheap at an auction years ago. The most expensive thing was the wood stain and preservative and the wire mesh for the walls. It will cost you a lot more to build if you have to buy all the lumber new. 😊

Super Job! Now I have to make one. I do have a question, why did you go to the tenon tool on part of it and not stay with the hole saw method? Just curious. Thanks
@natureartgirlАй бұрын
You could in theory use the hole saw method for all the pieces. The tenon cutter is faster and leaves a more tapered edge. But the one we bought was not big enough to do the large frame logs so we used the hole saw for them. You do need to buy the right size tenon cutter for your logs and the paddle bit that they recommend because it was a weird size. We had trouble with the blade on the tenon cutter coming loose a lot, but someone in the comments said they had the same one and they just took the blade out and sanded the paint off. No more issues! I hope this helps. Have fun with your project!!😊👍👍

You two just make my day! Sweetest couple always building and making things together and I have to say your faux wood grain is so convincing it took me a couple times of glancing to realize the title was faux wood grain. I had a weird project a few years ago where I had accidentally spilled pure acetone on my dining table which turned out to be made of mdf with a thin layer of oak veneer… I had to strip it back to raw veneer and then the profile edges turned out to be just mdf… I used Minwax stain in old oak and another light color which turned out but the profile mdf edges I had to use the stain and then paint fine fine lines of darker stains to make the “grain”. It turned out much better than I anticipated but your work is incredible so wished I’d seen this back then lol
@natureartgirlАй бұрын
That definitely sounds like work! Probably better though if you had to match the existing wood grain. This tool works great if you don’t have to match the existing grain. It’s kind of addictive though-want to start wood graining everything! 🤣🤣 Thanks so much for watching 😊

Am I seeing this right on the roof? You used 1x 6 and not 2 x 6 T and G?
@natureartgirl2 ай бұрын
That is just the interior ceiling. If you watch the next video it will make more sense. We put 2x6 rafters over that. And then the actual roof boards and metal roofing. The reason we put the ceiling on first is so we don’t have to fit it around all the uneven log beams. It is much easier and looks better too. You do have to be very careful walking on the tongue and groove until you get the rafters up. 😊

was your logs dry or are they green. if they were dry, how long did you allow them to dry
@natureartgirl2 ай бұрын
They were only partially dry. They were logs that we had left over from building the cabin. They were cut about one year before or maybe a little less. We had a few cracks develop later, but they do that anyway if you let them dry ahead of time. 😊

It turned out nice, yes. Say, what about the framing around the door on the outside...going to stain that as well, or a simple painting?
@natureartgirl2 ай бұрын
We stained the outside trim to match our log siding. But you could paint it if that would match the rest of the trim on your house. All of our trim is just stained. 😊

So glad we could help! We love ours, so much quieter than a generator 😊 Just be sure that you hook the battery to the main unit, since it does not work on its own. Also be sure you lock the cable properly. We have had several people that missed that detail and thought their unit was defective. Have fun boondocking!😊

That one chick died probably from dehydration from being stuck in shipping for so long. :/ Might also explain why the others ran to the water.
@natureartgirl3 ай бұрын
Here we get them next day. So they are only in shipping for one day and the post office calls us when they come in so we can get them immediately. But chicks have a way of getting in a pile so sometimes the bottom chick gets squashed. They can even do that in the brooder sometimes when they are really little. It’s always sad. 🥲
