Hi, excellent video. A superb fly for even the spookiest fish. To improve the hook-up ratio on smaller hooks, I tie a midge variation of this fly on small, but strong shrimp hooks (Kamasan B110 or similar) in sizes 14 and 16. I use 80 Denier thread to form a thin body and dress it very lightly with clear varnish. The finish is the same with a black hen hackle. It is not a spider then, but a midge, which is also a deadly pattern, especially when fished slowly on a long, thin leader and when fished with a loop (non-slip mono knot or similar). The loop gives the fly a little more movement in slower currents or in lakes. It also sinks a little better. Best regards and keep on tying!

Tidy video…very helpful. Nice setting as well. Used to enjoy working in N.I a few days a month a while back. Apart from rain loved the quiet roads (apart from Belfast) and all the more space people have around their homes, not like here in England & Wales

Sorry for late reply,Kilgad is always worth a visit as is opened 7 days a week, I haven’t been on the lakes in couple years but imagine that weather ain’t helping matters with weed and water temps.

You needn't be showing us any of them. We know what they look like. The less handling, the better.
@Andyrollinsfishing2 жыл бұрын
Your reply is unfortunately a bit late to the party, most them are probably long dead! I often think when people go out of their way to leave a moany comment that they are angry at their own life. Grab a fishing rod and enjoy life dude or better still pick up an acoustic guitar and play some glen Campbell.

@@Andyrollinsfishing - I don't have a trophy mentality. Used to. I had a big bow mounted 35 years ago, and I regret it, now that I've had time to reflect on it. It's the strike and the tussle that give me the thrill. If I bring a fish up beside me, cool. I admire it and release it without touching if I can. I recently hooked and released a 22" brown on a custom streamer in a small stream and didn't photograph it. Just reached down to twist the hook out. It's a Zen thing, perhaps. Perhaps one day you'll find yourself of the same mind. It's called sportsmanship. Best wishes.

@@holyworrier Again your falling over yourself, you don’t have trophy mentality but proceed to tell me your trophy story. I haven’t fished for rainbows in a few years, I really don’t care to be honest. I enjoy everything that makes life pleasant but you on the other hand spend your time leaving silly negative comments around KZbin and then talk about Zen! Enjoy life dude and don’t waste mine or your own time typing comments on stuff that you clearly don’t like. If I don’t like videos I don’t watch them, why would I waste something as precious as time on them.

Hi mate, do you use eggs or blobs in summer months also or do you use buzzers in summer? If do use eggs/blobs in summer what colours work best for the warmer months and same for colder months? I'm just starting again after a brief spell 20 years back when I was a late teen so looking for as many tips as I can get😁 Thanks Chris

Hi there, is it barbless you use? Any Kamasan B160 hooks I look for online, all seem barbed.

I just crush the barb with the vice when tying and the hooks come out The fish easily.

Never enjoyed fishing the bung, it does produce a lot of fish but the tendency for the fish to swallow the bung is a downside .
@Andyrollinsfishing3 жыл бұрын
Swallow the bung? I've never had a fish hold onto a bung long enough nevermind to break the line and then swallow it! Never deep hooked a fish with it either.
