Certainly, I shouldn't say that they are worthless, but they have maybe more limitations and weaknesses than are warranted considering lancers and far more versatile.

Comparing Gaunts to Exos is yeah... needs a whole lot of context. Gaunts vs Lancers is the dumbest thing, basically impossible to get enough Gaunts to kill a single Lancer. And those Lancers will make you lose quite a few Gaunts before you get in range of any Exos to actually deal damage to something that might turn into a fiend. While Gaunt's infest is snowbally and all, it really only works if you can actually get a few fiends out to prevent Exos and Lancers to micro backwards. Like I dunno what this interaction will look like in the future. Exos with their speedbuff micro can just out micro infinite Gaunts, Brutes and even Magmadons as long as they have room. Really the best way to beat a Vanguard as Infernal is to rush them before they tech to Exos, or to macro to mid game, and hope for a base race. An Infernal will just never beat a Vanguard in the midgame. In the late game you kind of have hope again once you get a Dragon out. Tho Exos can just shoot that down if you're not careful 😅

Yeah, I don't think I explained myself very well. I actually thought about taking the time recording, but I wanted to make sure it was still relevant. Lancers are definitely one of the strongest counters to gaunts. I do think to much stock is put in the exo though. Lancers are usually the reason why exos are so successful. If you skip lancers, then gaunts and by extension fiends steamroll exos. Infernal does have a number of counter options to the bio ball in all stages of the game, but I do think that countering the bio ball is more complicated than making the bio ball which would still constitute the need for a nerf in my mind. It is always tricky to balance around skill floors though, since nerfing easy to use units makes it good for low levels of play and bad to useless in professional games. Still, I am certainly surprised that the lancer has survived so long without nerfs.

Hexen get you through mid game if you have good build. You just need to play defensive until all necessary upgrades kick in. Double iron vault to make sure you have early game good enough then turtle once bioball is too big to handle and wait until you can spam 'c' with a bunch of full energy hexen.

@@daPawlak ye Hexen are really good. I started using them a lot. Magmadons are great against Gaunts in the mirror matchup, I never get more than 1 Magmadon vs Van or Cel anymore. Mostly to clear trees. And nah I still Conclave + Vault early. By mid game I have 3 Vaults and 2 Conclaves.

@@Broockle I stated playing with free early access only, double vault works great for me against vanguard and open vault conclave against celestial. I am pretty new to the game though, mostly SC2 player. Magmadons seem really cool but in practice against decent micro player they typically disappear instantly. Hellbourne seem like a must have though, regardless what match up.

@@daPawlak Even without micro you can't really use Magmadons at all vs Cel cause Argents while with energy deal bonus damage to armored and they vaporize anything with armor. And against Van Magmadons are deec against Exos but as long as Lancers exist your Magmadons will never reach the Exos. Hexen with Venom Trap and Miasma are crazy good in every matchup tho. With early Gaunts I can pressure better. There's a lot of players that just only macro until they reach the mid game and you gotta punish that. If you get Brutes and Gaunts off 1 conclave and 1 vault and also get the Infest upgrade then you can end a lot of games really quickly. But back off if they start building saw-blades or strike-nodes. You'll never break through those, it won't be worth it at least. With early Gaunts you'll also be able to deal with Argents better since they only deal bonus damage to Brutes and not Gautns, also Gaunts can hit the flying Prisms. I usually get like 2-3 camps and then attack to see what the enemy is doing.

Get a dog out as a spotter and just move your army around to clear all the camps. You can even get a bunker with buzzsaw in your luminite if you think you'll get outflanked. But there's really no reason to not constantly occupy ur army with clearing creep camps. Also 3 base and 2 rax...? Build more rax and even if you have no therium, still build lancers, they're great at eating dmg for your exos. If you can get a few dogs to grab their creep camps, even better. You're giving up too much map control.

I know the macro is a mess. I did use the resource bank to expand to a third, but the natural and third were not fully saturated at the time. And while I did not show it in the video, I dropped three more barracks after the third command post. Because I don't have anything resembling a build order for vanguard yet my sense of timing is all out of whack, so I make a lot of those kinds of mistakes. Luckily, now that I have more pro replays to work with we can have much cleaner games to look forward to.

aw man I love watching Argents blow up Lancers. It's so satisfying 😅 Something the game still does not communicate at all are damage types. I'm pretty sure the Argent's attack while it has energy is super strong vs armored and Lancers are armored. Yes Exo, I've watched a few pro matches and the Infernals they tend to get a lot more fiends early than I thought was possible. They help a lot to cut of retreat angles so your brutes and gaunts can actually fight the Exos. With Celestials Argents are still good vs lancers. Vectors give great map control. When I play Celestial I just double Starforge right away after building a creationchamber which I will not use right away. I then spam vectors. And I am then very much relying on the money from creep camps for the rest of the build. Creep camps give so much dang money. I play in gold league at the moment and Vanguards here never creep. And that just gives me a huge advantage in both resources and vision. I feel like Vectors alone already rek many players at this level, but if you're dying cause the Vanguard decided to attack with lancers and exos then make sure you have some bomb nodes at home, they are really strong vs Exos. Ye that dog at your base was infuriating, you need to go out and creep, you can't let a single dog stop you 😅 Doesn't matter if he sees you, for one it gives him more to do by microing his dog to safety (attention is a resource like you said) and for two if you see his army just retreat. You'd prbly get a few free lancer kills in the process. O ye, get the T2 mothership asap. It gives you that beam me up scotty ability which just instantly clears a camp. It's INSANITY! Best ability 😆 Ye that's my 2 cent. u got dis. I love your attitutde btw, that's exactly how you approach an RTS. Keep an open mind, it's a puzzle 😆

I didn't realize that fel boars count towards Animus. I'm a bit confused about Animus in general actually since the Shrine says that friendly units that die near it create animus. Does that imply that not all units dying give animus? Or do friendly units that die near a shrine give bonus animus? Another thing about the Hogs I realized the other day is that each hog gives you 2 supply. It's funny when you have a wall of meat farms and as you get attacked you lose all the hogs to the attack and you can actually watch your supply limit go down as you lose hogs. You then get it back as they respawn from the meatfarm.

I mean... Infernals early expanding vs Vangaurd is crazy awkward. I dun wanna let Vanguard tech to Exos without harassing them. They're just gonna make an invincible deathball if I let them do that. EDIT: k wow, that Infernal made way more stuff than you smhw. But his Magmadon use is the same as mine. I pretty much moved away from any tier 2 units and just spam tier 1. I just don't think any of them are any good. Hexen tho, they're interesting, those Venom mines might have potential.

The fast late game is kind of good for Infernals. Since Exos still require the biolab, so they're still tier 1.5 in that way. But Infernals can get their Magmadons and Hellborn out faster which can maybe be good. I really dunno how to deal with any amount of Exos, nothing can really deal with them except a Flailing Dragon maybe...? Never got into that position tho, I imagine it could still be 2 shot by 10 exos xD I really want some kind of splash dmg on the Infernal side to punish a cluster of Exos. The dmg from Infest is kinda laughable, I haven't tried it too extensively but from what I saw Miasma and Hexen mines just get healed off by medics ez. And ye, Weavers are an awesomely designed unit, but I just don't see a scenario for them to shine, they suck in an army composition, all they're really good for is give shroud back to allies and tp out when they're out of mana xD Maybe they'd be deec as a drop. Adunno. I agree, the slimes and oozes not giving money felt like an intentional choice. I wonder if all camps give money now. Great stuff in the patch, very exciting 😀

Who's to say that they won't, after all , the game is more than a year out from release with entire faction features and game modes not even in the game yet. When they do update the graphics I hope they maintain the visual clarity the game currently has as it greatly improves the gameplay though aesthetics should still be an important part of the design.

The models could use a bit of TLC, but they are visually distinct which is actually really good for gameplay. I would have a hard time believe that the game won't be improve the graphics since the game is nowhere near its release. You might consider checking back in on the game in a year or two and see how you feel about it then.

ye SC2's meta is very rigid. Mutalisks are incredibly niche. You can basically never build them. Terran has so many splash anti airs and Protoss has Phoenix... Reapers were nerfed so many times, thanks Byun. Banelings and Widow Mines, are fine imho. It's just Terran creep. Conceptually I agree with the Baneling's design. It's just a cool interaction forcing Terrans to split their marines. The greatest flaw in SC2 in my opinion is how important the Queen is for Zerg. I hate having to go mass queen but you have to in every matchup. It's the main reason I don't really play. That and Infestors are just.... there's actually a hundred small and medium sized reason's I don't play SC2 ladder 😆 Infernals v Vangaurds tho. GG. The current patch is prbly different now. But the way I play now is: I think it's bad to play Vault first honestly. Brutes get owned by Exos so hard it's not even funny. And as long as a single bunker exists you basically can't risk moving in for a kill. I double Conclave every game and get Vault later for Luminite sink and Magmadons. My control sucks too much to not get Hellborns, I get them killed every time, I stopped building them. So ye, early Gaunts with upgrades into Magmadons to at least attempt to deal with mass Exos. Once they have too many Exos, it becomes a crap shoot for me. They get to the point where they one shot Magmadons xD

Muta into phoenix is what nightmares are made of. XD I love Byun's crazy reaper play and grenade tricks, but no denying that the reaper nerf was in large part a reaper nerf. I appreciate the Infernal's input. I haven't had a chance to play Infernals in the early access build of the game yet and they are my least played faction in general, but I am looking forward to figuring out the match ups. What are your thoughts on the changes to the Infernals?

@@ExpeditionRTS I attempted, and I'm still attempting to reach top 500 with Infernals. I'm around 1350 atm, and I need to reach 1550 😆. But everyone's mmr keeps climbing so the goal post keeps is moving. It's getting harder and harder to climb. I just can't win against Vanguard at all. I win like 1 in 5 games maybe. I just can't against Exos. Even when I got them contained on 2 base vs my 3-4 bases, I just can't. Exos are so stupidly good. There's just no counter play that I can see. And bunkers are also so stupidly good. Against Celestials I've had a much easier time. Gaunts and Shadowfliers work pretty good. In the current patch I think Celestials were given the most toys to play around with. Infernals have some cool interactions, like the weavers restoring shield to friendly units when they pull em. Weavers also have movement speed buff on shroud and they can teleport home. And shadowfliers having an anti building dive bomb ability. Magmadons work ok together with weavers. They can pull em to saftey and restore their shields. Hellborns tho, they are really really hard to micro. And they're not that great either, they hardly deal any dmg, and they have no interesting interactions or abilities besides being able to destroy trees. Atlas deal way more dmg AND are way easier to micro since they can be put into siege mode. Hellborns are also crazy slow and have no getaway mechanic besides drops. They really need a rework I think. Spriggans r k, they don't end games. They just are... you can't use them against Gaunts, Exos or Argents at all. So you really can only harass with them. They can slow down production buildings, but I'm not sure it's worth the micro 😆

I nvr played any EA game competitively. Maybe RA3, but I pretty much only played it with friends. EA games never had a long lasting and easy to jump into ladder experience. I never thought of any of them as easier tho. I mean in Tiberium Wars I found it frustrating how easy it is for Nod to harass tiberium collectors with rocket bikes. They are so exposed and nothing is as fast as those bikes. Tiberium Sun I really only ever played on LAN back in the day 😆 Ye Stormgate controls like a dream and it's got great creative ideas for units among the Infernals and Celestials. The Vanguard are the Soldier76 of races pretty much, just so SC2 players have something to jump in and play right away. For accessibility that's prbly good. Tho I do hope we get a few more more interesting units, I feel like the Celestials were given the coolest stuff so far 😆

Yeah, my ladder experience on RA3 was rough. Every game was just sneaking engineers into your main base. I also was very bad at RTS then. Walls, turrets, and bombers were the name of the game in those days. I know, what you mean about the celestials. I hope they can find a way to balance the celestials without taking away their cool mechanics, but Celestial all-ins seem pretty intense right now. I think that is kind of fun though, when the meta hasn't settled every broken opener is just a puzzle waiting to be solved for the faction that is struggling. If I am the one to crack though code on safe openers against celestials for either faction, then you will definitely see a video of it on this channel.

I had 1 game where I got rekt by Kri and it was when I early expanded vs Celestials, lesson learned. Infernals have the weakest late game I think so just double conclave 1 base and spam Gaunts.

Nice, ye, I play Infernals and I love all the units except for the Hellborn, that thing is impossible to micro if you're a select all army addict like me. I feel like the Celestials have so many units that look like they're flying but are actually not. The Animancer I wasn't sure for example, I really wanted to come up with a build where I just go double Conclave and spam Gaunts with upgrades and then get a Spire and get shadowflyers to take down prisms. The Luminite collectors only fly when they take off I think, they look like they're flying over a Luminite mine xD I think my favorite Celestial unit is the Cabal. It has a reverse gravity lift so the targets go up in the air. I thought this would smhw combo with some air superiority fighters but the Celestials don't have anything like that. All their flyers seem to attack ground as well or sometimes only ground. You can also take over an Imp or Bob and make a base with the other faction.

If I am not mistaken, you can get an upgrade for the Shadowflyers that allows them to crash into buildings, but I haven't gotten around to a new breakdown of the Infernal's. I will get their though. If you figure out a strategy for punishing Celestial's rapid expansion, then feel free to send the game in and I will showcase it if you like. I haven't experimented enough with the cabal, but I do love the reverse gravity ability. Their is just something about seeing a unit outside it's natural element that is just so fun. I know, I would love to pull off a game that has a mixed faction comp, because I stole a worker. If I do it, you best believe that replay is ended up on this channel.

The game certainly lacks some polish in it's early access. The game is still more than a year out from it's completion in both art and mechanics. If you aren't already a fan of the game, then it might be worth checking back in later when it is closer to finished.

Celestial all-ins do seem to be very powerful right now. The game is still over a year out from being finished. I would give the devs time to cook. I am sure that a lot of rebalancing is a head of us. Until then, if you aren't a celestial player, I would keep an eye out for video guides to strategies that can counter celestial aggression as this iteration of the game is figured out.
