My late father was serving on board The Valiant at the time, when he saw the film he was really angry they did .not abandon ship but were moved to the upper decks and the mines exploded beneath them! He also remarked that the Italian submariners were blonde.He refused the chance to be at the premiere of the film!

I think you’ll find the subs were not English - they were Italian!! Okay joke over -actually my dad was in this movie ,playing the Chief Petty Officer (I think) in the anchor Cableroom scene - I remember him when I was a child aged 8, returning from Italy having been there for threeweeks filming ( he brought me a very fancy geometry drawing set as a present ) the film was believed lost for some time but it was shown some years ago at the NFT (English version -I was at the screening )

I suggest replacing the cam chain before 50k miles. These chains do stretch which retards the cams. Tensioner wont help with that. I installed a DID quiet chain which was half a link shorter than the worn out factory original. The DID is heavier duty and fits right in. I then installed a double dot tensioner and im very happy with the quiet result.

Cool movie! This reminds me of one level in the really hard (buggy but still good) game "Hidden & Dangerous 2 + Sabre Squadron", now known as combined game under the name "Hidden & Dangerous 2: Courage Under Fire", available on GOG. In one level you have to ride those mini subs and attach some mines, steal an Enigma machine and quit w/o setting off the alarm of the 2nd ship. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ7Mm4aNpM6pn7s

A great movie, though I prefer the alternate ending in Sailor of the King with Michael Rennie, where AB Seaman Brown and the Captain are awaiting decorations by the King. With Jeffrey Hunter as Signalman Andrew 'Canada' Brown, Michael Rennie as Lieutenant / Captain Richard Saville, Peter van Eyck as Kapitän Ludwig von Falk, Wendy Hiller as Lucinda Bentley, Bernard Lee as Petty Officer Wheatley, Victor Maddern as Signalman Willy Earnshaw, and John Horsley as Commander John WillisPatrick. This was also released as 'Single-Handed'. As found on Wikipedia: First ending The landing party searches the island for Brown as the camera pans to his apparently dead body. The action then cuts to London and an honours investiture, where Saville receives a knighthood for his actions. Brown was found dead by the landing party and was awarded a Victoria Cross posthumously, presented to his mother. She is revealed to be the former Lucinda Bentley, who had moved to Canada after her tryst with Saville. She and Saville meet before she goes to accept her son's medal. [I have yet to see the last part where Savill and Lucinda Bentley meet]. Second ending The action cuts straight from the German survivor to an honours investiture in London, where Brown, who has, in this version, survived to receive his VC, meets Saville. Brown tells Saville that his English mother - to whom he owes his joining the navy - is living in Montreal and unable to make it to the ceremony (though whether or not she is Lucinda is not revealed). Saville informs Brown that he will be his signaller on their next posting on the North Atlantic convoy routes. They will both probably get a chance to see his mother in Canada. The pair then stand to attention as the national anthem plays.

An excellent film with a very young John Mills. Sailor of the crown is another one worth watching from the 1950's with a similar story when a British Sailor escapes from the sickbay of a German ship called the 'Blucher' or something like that. The sailor in that also climbed a cliff with a rifle and fired on the German sailors carrying out repairs on the ship which had anchored in a cove. The ending was different to this film though as the sailor survived.

Amazing how dubbing damages a film! Clearly, the lips are not in sync with Italian, and the dubbing voices lack the distinctive diction of John Mills, Robert Shaw and the rest. The subtitled translation is very poor, too... hurts to see an English film with dodgy subtlitles in English

@Duffloop
@Duffloop Жыл бұрын
Hi - It's one of the easiest jobs you can do. You don't really even need to set the cylinders to Top Dead Center either (I was just curious). Once installed it self-adjusts - assuming you buy the correct self-adjusting CCT. (Jaws motorcycles does one: Honda Blackbird CBR1100XX Cam Chain Tensioner Honda OEM CCT 06140MAT325). I reckon the hardest part is removing the the old CCT - the gasket was stuck (Use a few gentle knocks with a bit of wood or soft hammer to dislodge to old CCT - easy). 2nd hard part is cleaning the old gasket off the engine, shove a cloth in the hole so you don't get gasket bits in the engine ;-) Course the boring bit is having to take the side fairing off - ugh.
