This was a marvellous spot for birds but I wonder what will happen to all the nesting skylarks now, recent grubbing up of all the undergrowth must have disturbed many other species. Will be sad to see it go.

You are probably correct with the dates to install the bridge beams, but there are a couple of things that could disrupt that. If you look at Rob's video 9th November, at 1:27 in the top right corner you can see 4 concrete beams ready to install. There are now 13 on them on site and another 9 due in January, having being delivered from Ireland. So we really need all 22 beams on site. But more important is the weather. We will be using two large cranes to lift the beams and need low wind speed to do it safely. If the wind speed is too high, the closure will be postponed, probably for two weeks.

Someone remind me what the plan is with the a3 portion running over the junction. Staying as 2 lanes wide or being demolished and rebridged as 3 lanes?
@jonathanwade1214
@jonathanwade1214 7 күн бұрын
It is staying as two lanes. The volume of traffic never justified any widening. Approximately 80% of traffic on the A3 approaching junction 10 leaves the A3 to join the M25.

So why isn't it open yet? It was due to open last month and the date was confirmed only a couple of weeks before a further delay was announced. Surely the officials must have known when they "confirmed" the November date that it wasn't going to be ready. Why do we seem incapable of building things on time in this country - particularly when they are connected with railways.

This part of the improvements have not changed in weeks. Why can't Balfour Beatty and Highways England finish off parts of the project instead of doing some work and then seemingly leaving it for weeks? The A245 coming east is still a nightmare, largely due to the single lane from Seven Hills Road to the Painshill junction

Yeah I have to navigate this part daily. No idea why they have started so many parts of it and not finished any of them? There is a sign down by the mini roundabout by Brooklands Road saying Closures 13th May, expect delays for 29 weeks. By my calculations that was 2 weeks ago and still no sign of them finishing anything. Possibly because there is almost no one ever there doing anything. The few times I've seen anyone working, they're just standing around doing nothing.

As viewers try to work out what National Highways intend at the Wisley interchange it is this: Travelling from the south on the A3 to reach RHS Wisley you must go past Wisley to the M25/A3 interchange and return down the A3 to the Ockham roundabout, thence into RHS Wisley. On leaving RHS Wisley, if you intend to go south you will drive to the Ockham roundabout and will be "required" to travel north on the A3 to the M25/A3 interchange and then retrace your steps southwards on the A3. Thus the original process where you slipped off the A3 into Wisley is no longer available, while the original method of gaining access to the A3 from Wisley remains the same. Some people will be thinking that if they are on the northbound A3 intent on visiting RHS Wisley (from the south) then they might leave the A3 at Burnt Common travel through Ripley to the Ockham roundabout thence into RHS Wisley? In a similar manner, when leaving RHS Wisley if intending to go south, rather than schlep all the way up to the A3/M25 interchange they could easily travel through Ripley and join the southbound A3 at Burnt Common. As I understand it, National Highways is minded to put a 20 mph speed limit all through Ripley, enforced by speed cameras to force the above discussed ingress to and egress from RHS Wisley. Patently the A3 was intended as a bypass for Ripley, but National Highways seems unaware of the possibility that traffic at an enforced 20 mph crawling through the village in 2nd gear, creating noise and pollution may not be well received by Ripley . Why is this happening you ask? Apparently a couple of MPs and others opined that enlarging the Ockham roundabout, and putting in a slip road from the north bound A3 to the roundabout, and from the roundabout to the southbound A3 was unnecessary. Meanwhile of course, there will soon be 1700 homes built on the old airfield. This would suggest that 1700 wage earners +/- will have to turn out for work everyday. Some will wiggle through Ockham and Horsley, some will go north but, I would suggest, many of them will want to go south to Guildford and environs. Why would those people ever want to drive all the way up to the A3/M25 interchange and drive all the way back when, even at an enforced 20 mph they could drive through Ripley to join the A3 at Burnt Common? Chances are National Highways will say they did not know about the 1700 homes, when the likelihood of homes being built on the airfield has for many years been as predictable as the ending of the movie Titanic.

I thought that too! It seems to be on many of the original plans/drawings. I wonder if it's just access for the landowner. But, of course, that landowner may well sell to developers.

Ham Barn roundabout near Liss on the A3 does need a new junction with a roundabout to be built and slip roads. And the existing roundabout that is a total bottleneck to be removed so that traffic on the A3 can flow freely.
@Anonymoususer_8823

Wisley Interchange that where the M25 and the A3 meet is quite a busy interchange and it’s nice to see reconstruction of the new wider roundabout. That would take more traffic coming off the M25 and A3. Ham Barn roundabout near Liss on the A3 also needs a new junction and the existing roundabout to be removed.

Junction 10 on the M25 near Esher does need a rebuild as it’s a very busy interchange with the A3 London-Portsmouth road that passes through Guildford. And I have heard that the A3 could have avoided Guildford with a bypass. Or a tunnel that would have seen the A3 pass underneath Guildford. With the Hindhead Tunnel that was built to allow the A3 to pass underneath Devils Punch Bowl south of Guildford.

Could someone possibly explain the various routes available at the complicated junction visible at 1.46 please? Is the upper road heading off to the right a one way 2 lane entrance to the RHS? Is the road heading ‘up’ at the top of the view a two way road, if so it doesn’t seem to line up with the one way exit road at the bottom. All a bit weird…
