4 years out with broken fibula and plate with screws in. It’s my weathervane, it still swells at the end of day, I am walking normally and climb ladders and steps. What I haven’t done yet is skiing again. I’m 67 yrs old and relatively fit. I do Pilates and gym exercises. Some walking too. Really afraid to get those ski boots on. It took me a year to get my cowboy boots back on. Any advice with the ski boots?

Just got my cast removed 3 days ago after 6 weeks, (no surgery needed) I broke my fibula but it's not that big of a crack, still couldn't do anything for the past 6 weeks. I can walk perfectly with crutches but when I try to walk without them barefooted It's a bit difficult, I can only walk with a limp, and I feel little pain on different positions in my foot. But I'm optimistic that I might Walk normally again a week from now.

I’m pretty sure my ankles will never feel the same again and will always swell really bad if I’m on them to long. I just hope I’ll walk normal again one day, I’m working on it and I have good PT’s.

I broke my ankle 2 years ago. Got a plate with 8 screws. A few months later with PT, I could walk, run, jump. But my ankle kept swelling badly after a long day of walking or work. After a year the pain got so bad. We got the hardware removed. Again going into PT, After three months the ankle got way better than it did before. No more swelling, more range of motion, no pain. the skin looked calm. Hardware removed was the best thing for me.

I heard that the hole from the removal would make the bones much more weak and fragile id it true? and if not would the holes be filled back up fast? Sorry for asking so much questions.

I am post op 11 weeks I had a trimalleolar ankle fracture. I was so eager to get back to walking, i was told to start walking with a boot 7 weeks with crutches, not full weight bearing. I know i shouldn't have but on the first day i was so eager i slowly tried to walk without the crutches with the boot. After doing it, i could walk full weight bearing in the Boot, no crutches without any pain! (Keep in mind my doctor said crutches and boot) I was so confident around 5 days before my doctors appointment i walked around my house barefoot! Not all day though. I still had no pain, unless i started to do stuff I didn't have to with my legs or unnecessary exercises. My doctor said my xrays were great, i informed him of my doings against his words, he told me to keep doing whatever i was doing before because i was doing better than expected. Surprisingly he told me if i felt like i could, i coild probably start jogging in a few weeks (around the present right now) i stumbled upon your videos on your journey the same day of the doctor! I have to say your channel helped me through this rough time! What you did and the motivation of seeing you! Upon 11 weeks now, i can jog at a very slow pase, a few times a day. I have a doctor checkup in 4 more weeks! The only trouble i have is my foot arch, i would say a lot of pain but if i raise it too high it starts to burn, if i lower it too low again starts to burn. My balance is deficient however good enough. Another fun fact, through this journey i found out that i have a condition where my body produces extra calcium, my doctors say this might be the reason for my fast growth but not best thing. Now my body needs the calcium to repair my bones. But when my bones fully heal my body will start to feel fatigued from the mass production of extra calcium. Although im just here to say thank you! For everything youve marked on your jouney helping me! If i have any big news on my 4 week check-in. I will be sure to edit my comment!

Thanks for the update. I'm 2 years, 2 months post surgery for a fractured calcaneus. Bone is healed, but continued numbness from upper ankle to toes, bottom of the foot. Weak if walking too much and sometimes feels as if the plate is coming through the side and bottom of the foot. Physical therapist mentions neuropathy. Any if these symptoms equate to your experience? Not certain the ankle/foot will ever be the same.

@krzysiek21427 ай бұрын
I've had the same injury long time ago in 02.2017,you have had in 2013 so It's 4 years diffrence and since then I have been thinking about possible arthritis in the future.This arthritis really sucks and there's nothing you can do about it only slowing it down with exercises.If you don't do anything with possible excessive pain in your ankle due to arthritis you will start walking differently and this will damage your knee above and hip.If you decide to fuse it,same,different walking causing damage to your knee and hip over time.If you decide to replace the joint I've read that people can walk on it only for 10 years od shorter until It's worn out.Fusing or replacing the joint can cause complications,takes time to recover,may not help at all or just a little bit and You słowly becoming disabled with no way out of this.
@krzysiek21427 ай бұрын
Could you describe me your present state and how did you brake it?I have damaged(not torn completely) my ligaments(triquetral ligament and mentioned tibiofibular synostosis which is like 4 separate ligaments)along with trimalleolar fracture.This causes instability in your ankle(you can feel it by standing on one leg the good and bad one for one minute)and instability can also help to cause ankle arthritis:D

Had the hardware out and everything finished fine. They say you'll never feel normal and things still feel a little different but not much. Everything came back including full balance and range for martial arts. Have faith..you never know.

What kind of hardware did you have removed??? I had a trimalleloar fracture too 9 months back and I found my issue to be stiffness from the tightrope.
@stevenreznick43945 ай бұрын
@@jovanyponce1162 I had a screw canoe, screw plate and 9 screws inserted at my surgery. One of those screws was long across the syndesmosis. I researched having everything out vs in. Didn't have much pain with it in but they wanted to take the longer screw out for range of motion so while they were doing it I just had everything go. The recovery for that was quite short. The final come back at the end was more convincing myself it was back. Your body changed so the chance of things being different from there on is large but honestly I trained myself again, worked to restore balance between my legs. The effort I put in wasn't large despite my training. Two years on since the fun and most everything is fine. Like I said keep the faith.

I'm almost 4 years out from my trimalleolar break. It was a bad one. 2 plates, 16 screws. Got a bone infection the same week I was cleared to put weight on it. That was a whole different battle, but luckily it was caught early and didn't kill any bone. Currently the outer plate is pushing it's way out. I've got 3 broken screws and an open wound in the original incision where you can actually see a screw head. I'm currently waiting for removal of hardware Nov 7th after back to back MRSA infections. I've been going to wound care weekly for around 3 months now. The lack of healing after several visits is what got me referred for complete removal. I'm going to an orthopedic trauma surgeon this time that specializes in ankles. This has been a complete nightmare. I've lost everything financially and just want my life back so I can go back to work and just be normal again. Over these 4 years I've developed arthritis in the ankle joint, but I can deal with that, I just want to be able to move my for again. Btw, I'm 49 year old male.

This video was fantastic! I had a trimal fracture on feb 25. Surg was feb 29 this year. I am 7 PT appts in and no boot but using crutches. I find my surgeon to be rather unrealistic in how fast I'm going to be walking 100%. My PT is a lot this gal as far as expectations go. She doesn't want me limping... but i try to do too much bc that's me - im impatient. But pain has a way of making me slow down. I'm a bit like my surgeon i guess as far as expectation. But i loved this video and the reminder that a new normal is just another day away from being able to be my very active self again. Thank you!!
